Come Join the Queer Folx and Friends Affinity Group

Hello Shoreline Campus! The Queer Folx and Friends affinity group would like to wish you a very happy pride month!

Pride Month began after the Stonewall riots, a series of gay liberation protests in 1969. he first Pride march in New York City was held on June 28, 1970, on the one-year anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising. Since 1970, LGBTQ+ people have continued to gather in June to march with Pride and demonstrate for equal rights. In June 2000, President Bill Clinton officially designated June as Gay and Lesbian Pride Month, in recognition of the gay activism throughout the years. A more-inclusive name was chosen in 2009 by President Barack Obama: Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Pride Month.

If you would like to be part of the Queer Staff/Faculty community on campus, we invite you to join our affinity group. At this time, we are taking applications via e-mail. Please e-mail Clarke Hanson (chanson@shoreline.edu) or Roberto Lopez (rlopez@shoreline.edu). We will then add you to our Teams chat. The group does not yet have a monthly meeting planned, but you could be part of the planning process. We have fun group activities planned for the future, and we hope to join our voices to affect real change on campus.

Happy Pride Month!
