Upcoming Roof Repairs

Hello Campus Community,

We will be starting our multi-location roof repair project this month.  The contractor, Krueger Sheet Metal, has been awarded the project.

This project consists of repairs to the following buildings around campus:

  • 4000 building skylight replacement
  • 2900 building soffit and roof repairs
  • 3000 building soffit repairs
  • 1000 building cupola roof replacement

Currently, we don’t have a schedule from the contractor and will not have one until we have our pre-construction meeting.  Once I have this information, I will share it out to the campus.  These repairs will not impact access to these buildings, however, there will be noisy work and a potential odor.  More information to follow.  Feel free to reach out if you have any questions.

Thank you,

Bldg. 5000 Elevator – Service Outage

Dear Campus Community,

Last Thursday, 7/24, the 5000 Building (FOSS) elevator was taken out of service due to an unknown issue. An elevator technician responded that day but found the solution required a new part. When the technician returned this week, it was discovered that the wrong part was ordered. The elevator in Bldg. 5000 will be out of service until the correct part is received and installed; we are still waiting for a timeline from the contractor. I apologize that notification was not sent out sooner, it was originally expected to be a same day fix.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me via email at gcranson@shoreline.edu

Respectfully,

Gregory Cranson

Bracken Construction Update

Hello Campus Community,

We are getting close to starting our STEAM (Bracken) building project.  Bayley, our contractor, has provided a schedule for the next few months.  A few tasks to highlight will be the construction of a new ramp from 2300, Abatement of 2200, Demoing of 2200, and tree removal around the new STEAM site.

Each of these tasks will result in noisy work and dust.  Below is the fence plan which highlights where they will place their construction fencing around campus.  As part of the fencing, Bayley will be constructing a new ramp on the west side of 1800 for access to 1800 building from the west parking lots.

This is a black and white map showing where the fences will be for the Bracken building construction
Also below is the logistics plan which indicates where the construction trailers will be placed, what parking areas will be fenced off for use by the contractor, where flaggers will be placed, and how trucks will move around campus and access the construction zone.
This is a colorful diagram showing where different construction aspects of the Bracken building will be.
The fire lane in between 1800 and 1700 buildings will be used as a pass through for the construction site.  This fire lane will remain open for pedestrian use and access to the accessibility parking on the west side of the 4000 building.

More information to follow as the project team and Bayley start our weekly construction meetings, and more information is provided.
Feel free to reach out if you have any questions.

Important Facilities Updates- Please Read Carefully

Hello Campus Community,

Please see some important updates from Facilities below.  These updates are for work being done between 4/23-4/30.  Please read carefully.

Water Shutdown Tomorrow 4/23 in Building 2900 from 6:30-8:30am

The water to 2900 will be shutdown on 4/23 from 6:30am to 8:30am.  This is to finalize punch list items for the Cedar building.

Summary of Planned Contractor Activity at Cedar/6000 Building, Access Requests Next Week, 4/22 to 4/26

Forma has scheduled concrete on the following days within the construction zone.  For Tuesday, 4/23, from 8am – 3pm, Forma will be patching asphalt at the NE corner of building 2300 and at the parking lot/concrete path connections on the West side of the building.  There will be some odor from the new asphalt.  The walking path to the SW door of 6000 will remain open.   For Thursday, 4/25, from 3pm-5pm, concrete cure seal will be installed in Phase 2 site adjacent to building 2200.  The sealant does give off an odor which is not hazardous to people walking outside by the construction fence at buildings 2300 and 2900.  Please avoid the area around the construction zone.  Employees with accommodations in place impacted by the concrete sealant application process can contact HR at hr@shoreline.edu for any support needed. Any other employees potentially impacted by the smell are welcome to work with their supervisor to explore remote work options noting that campus services must remain open and staffed during this time.

Roofing Projects- Lift Onsite 4/30/24

We are in the process of gathering information to start a few roofing projects on campus.  Our on-call Architect will have a lift brought onsite on Tuesday, 4/30, to conduct some exploratory work on the 3000-building soffit.  The lift will be in place at 7am and should be removed by 1pm.

Feel free to reach out if you have any questions.

Thank you,
