HSAMCC Building Update

Dear Campus Community,

Today we wanted to give you a brief update on the HSAMCC building.  We made some great progress this summer and are very excited to open later this year.

Unfortunately, we just received notification of an additional delay in the completion of construction at HSAMCC due to a manufacturer defect in a mechanical unit related to the HVAC system. At this time, the contractor is reporting a two-week delay to our Temporary Certificate of Occupancy (TCO), pushing it back to September 26.

We understand that this news is challenging and appreciate the impact it has on all of us. Please know that we are coordinating closely with the contractor to determine what move-in scopes we can complete prior to TCO and hope to have more info in the next few weeks, including a detailed timeline of what will occur over the next month.

We appreciate your patience during this process. In the meantime, please continue packing and labeling all your items so we are ready to move as soon as we are able.  If you have further questions about the move, please contact your direct supervisor.

Thank you,

Jack

Tree in Courtyard- Removal 9/16/23

Hello Campus Community,

As part of the repaving work in the courtyard, we have been advised by an arborist to remove the center tree.  The large tree roots have severely impacted our courtyard and sewer system.  A tree contractor will be onsite Saturday, 9/16, to cut down the tree.  We will have the remnants moved back into our natural landscape.  The tree contractor will be closing off the area around the courtyard to keep people safe.  Once this work is completed, our grounds department will grind up the stump.  In place of this tree, we will be planting a small tree on 9/19.  This new tree will have a smaller root system and be able to thrive in this area.  Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks,

Kim Clark

9000 Bathroom Construction Update

Hello Campus Community,

We are well underway in remodeling the 2nd floor restrooms in the 9000 building.  The contractor will need to shut down the water to the 3rd floor restrooms this Friday, 8/4, from 8am to 4pm.  The only restrooms available in the 9000 building will be on the 1st floor.  Please let Kim Clark know if you have any questions.

Have a great day!

Caution: Wasp/Hornet Nests Near Several Buildings on Campus

Hello Campus Community,

Facilities has been notified of a few areas with active wasps and hornet nests.  We have an exterminator onsite to check over the locations and address the situation accordingly.  Please be careful as you move about campus and stay clear of the following areas: walk path in between north side of 3000 leading to the south end of 2800, the SE side of 2300, and west side of 1600 in the Ivy by the parking lot.  Please contact Facilities if you come across more wasp/hornet nests on campus.

Thank you,

Kim

Important: HSAMCC Building Update

Dear Campus Community,

Due to delays beyond the control of the College or our Contractors, we have just received word that the new HSAMCC building will now be opening in mid-Fall as opposed to the beginning of the Fall Quarter as was originally planned.

Seattle City Light will be on campus Monday night, July 10, 2023, to connect and power up the transformer to bring power to the new building.  As we stated in an e-mail we sent earlier this week, the shutdown will occur from 10pm on the 10th until 4am on the 11th.  The following buildings have a generator; 1000, 4000, 2900 (north end), and 7000 (limited to hallways and open areas).  Maintenance will be onsite during this time to assist Seattle City Light.

The Project Team (Facilities and the Deans) are working with Faculty to develop a plan for instruction   for the impacted programs. More information to follow soon.

By mid-September, the Project Team will start moving people and equipment into the new HSAMCC building.  Further information to follow.

Thank you for your patience, and we will continue to provide updates as the project progresses.
