During the high temperatures anticipated this week, please see the following guidance for staying safe while working.
HEAT SAFETY TIPS:
- Ensure proper hydration.
- Drink plenty of water throughout your shift, and don’t wait until you are thirsty to drink.
- Where possible, avoid drinks with caffeine/sugar which can increase dehydration.
- Take regular breaksin cooler areas.
- Visit cooler spaces on campus (PUB Bldg 9000, Library Bldg 4000, etc) for your breaks and meal periods.
- Reduce incoming heat and circulate air where possible.
- Close the shades on windows receiving direct sunlight to reduce heat from entering.
- Consider the use of fans to move air within your workspace.
ALTERNATE CAMPUS LOCATIONS:
Are you in a building without air conditioning and it’s too hot to work? The following campus locations have been reserved for employee use:
- Library Computer Lab – Room 4201
- Tuesday, 7/15 from 8am – 5pm
- Wednesday, 7/16 from 8am – 5pm
- Quiet Dining Room – Room
- Tuesday, 7/15 from 8am – 1pm
- Wednesday, 7/16 from 8am – 1pm
NOTE: Employees working in units without air conditioning may work with their supervisors to take leave (or request telework) as appropriate noting College units must remain staffed across business hours of Monday – Thursday, 8am to 5pm.
