Call for volunteers for Math Olympiad, Sat. March 12

Shoreline Math Olympiad is being held on Shoreline’s campus again this year on Sat., March 12. from 8 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. This is a great community event that brings hundreds of students and their parents to our campus. Volunteer proctors are still needed!

Training is provided the morning of the event, and volunteers do not need to know anything about math. Volunteers may be called on to read some mental math questions aloud, so volunteers do need to be able to speak in clear English. The grades of the children participating are grades 4th – 8th, and each testing room will have at least 2 proctors assigned to work as a team.

We are expecting over 700 students and need more than 50 proctors. Can you join us?  Contact Shelley Anderson at sj_anderson@yahoo.com for more information.

What a great chance to be an ambassador for Shoreline!  Check out the details below, via ShorelineAreaNews.

The Shoreline Math Olympiad is an annual math competition event held each March on the Shoreline Community College campus.

It is open to all 4th through 8th grade students who live in or go to school within the Shoreline school district boundaries.

This event has increased in popularity each year, with 2016 expecting close to 800 participants from 19 area school, including public, private, and home-schooled students.

The students descend upon the SCC campus ready for a challenging day of math! You can’t miss them with their school t-shirts proudly being worn, and huge smiles as they make their way around the campus for the various day’s happenings.

Students compete as individuals in two rounds of mental math and multiple choice question tests, as well as have the opportunity to work as a team of up to four students on two rounds of problem solving tests.

The day begins around 8:00am and the awards ceremony is usually concluded by 2:30pm.

All are invited to join us in the Shoreline Community College gymnasium for the entertainment and awards portion of the day. We suggest getting there BY noon to get a seat!

This event is made free of charge to all participants thanks to our generous event sponsors:

  • Shoreline Community College
  • Shoreline Public Schools Foundation
  • James Alan Salon
  • Chuck Olson Chevrolet/KIA
  • Smart Service Subaru
  • Shoreline Public Schools

Shoreline Math Olympiad takes place due to the committed group of 20 planning team members that coordinate all that is needed to make it all come together.
