Relay For Life

There is still the opportunity to be involved in the Shoreline Relay For Life team.

Relay For Life is a fundraising effort for the American Cancer Society that runs from January to June 7-8, when we have the big, fun event at the King’s School track in Shoreline.  The large majority of the funds go to cancer research and other support for cancer patients/survivors.

Shoreline students have worked hard this quarter but are only about half way to their Goal. If you’re wanting to get involved (even by simply donating) or if you’re just hearing about it now we’d really appreciate your help.  Please contact Alan Loveless or go to the relay for life website. You can write a check to the American Cancer Society and give it to me by Friday or donate online.

Thanks,

Alan Loveless

Landscapes of the Heart

Celebrate the end of the quarter and the year with some great music by the SCC choirs this Friday night, June 6, at Calvin Presbyterian Church at 7:30 p.m. The Chamber Chorale and Shoreline Singers present  “Landscapes of the Heart: Exploring the Intersections of Nature, Geography, and Emotion” … a fancy title to describe songs that express our deep connection to place and the land. Everything from Palestrina to Mozart to Schumann, to contemporary composers Morten Lauridsen (poetry by Rilke) and Eric William Barnum (poetry by Millay), to folk songs from Scotland and Canada, to a classic from the Beatles’ “Abbey Road”!

It’s a real deal for SCC employees (only 5 bucks) and it’s all for a good cause, as the concert is sponsored by the SCC Foundation and all proceeds go to the Foundation’s Michael Mitchell Vocal Scholarship Fund which aids our talented student vocal musicians in time of special financial need.

Tickets at the door:

  • General admission – $7
  • Seniors /  SCC employees – $5
  • Students – $3
  • 12 and under – free

Caps and Gowns

Cap & gown rentals have arrived and are ready for distribution in the PUB room 9301. They will be here for pick-up until Friday, June 6 at 3:30 p.m.

The area will be secured, so please ask Lisa Smith or the Student Leadership Center staff to assist you.

For individuals who prefer to pick up their regalia on the day of Commencement, Lisa Smith will be in the Issue Room, Lower Gym, 3000 building at noon to distribute all remaining caps and gowns. Please be in the Lower Gym by 1:30 at the latest. Belongings and personal items will be locked in the Fitness Center (Lower Gym) during the ceremony, but not in the Issue Room.

If you have ordered a cap and gown and are not able to attend, please notify Lisa Smith (x5862) immediately.

One final reminder, we will no longer return the regalia to the Issue Room following the ceremony as we have in years past. Please be sure to return your caps and gowns on Sunday to room 9202 in the PUB, during the reception.  We will pack these for shipping the following day.

Kim Thompson has also notified that Panda Cleaners (next to Central Market) will press gowns for about $9 and will do overnight service.

Put your textbooks on reserve!

reservesWhile you are remembering to put in your order for textbooks at the bookstore, please put a copy of your textbook on reserve at the library!

Thanks!
