Canvas Housekeeping Reminders

canvasThis is a friendly reminder to perform a little housekeeping in your Canvas account. June 27th is just a suggested “gitterdun by date”. You can add that to your calendar if it helps.

End of the Spring Quarter:

Since grades are turned in, it’s time to download your grade books to save the student data in case it’s needed in the future.  This is quick to do in Canvas and generates a .CSV file that can be opened in Excel.  Click here for detailed instructions.

Beginning of Summer Quarter:

Summer session begins on Monday, June 23 so remember to “Publish” your Canvas Course so students can access your content and receive your Announcements and Messages.  You can publish anytime, from now until 9 a.m. on Monday, June 23.   Click here for detailed instructions on publishing.

Canvas Draft State Training & Open Lab

canvasHave you heard that there is now a “Draft State” in Canvas?  Come and see what it’s all about at this training and Open Lab time.

“Draft State” is great change to the Canvas platform that makes it easy to truly hide content under development (ie: in a draft state).

If you can’t make it in person watch this overview video from Canvas and then contact eLearning Services if you have any questions!

All hazards training on Wednesday, June 18

The next big step in the college emergency management plan is happening.

The All-Hazards Training is an excellent overview of what faculty and staff should be prepared for in various emergency situations.  The training is an hour and a half long and will be presented on numerous dates and times. On Wednesday, June 18, the training will take place at 9 a.m. in room 2925.

This important training is mandatory for all faculty and staff.

For those unable to attend the scheduled trainings offered before the end of this academic year, additional opportunities will be offered in fall, 2014.

Faculty members are not expected to attend trainings that occur outside of the contractual academic calendar. Associate faculty members who attend mandatory training and submit a completed time-sheet to the VPASA’s office will be paid for that time at the contractual rate for non-instructional work, $39 per hour.

There is nothing more important to this effort than a well-trained staff.  Preparation, training and readiness can make all the difference should the college ever be faced with a critical emergency.
