Cap and Gown orders for Faculty, Administrators, and Staff due April 29

Commencement will be held on Sunday, June 5, 2016 at 2 p.m. in the gymnasium. All faculty, administrators and staff are invited to wear commencement attire. Your participation is encouraged as a tribute to the dedication and achievements of our 2016 graduates.

The deadline for ordering caps and gowns is Friday, April 29. You can go online to order your commencement wear. Our cap and gown vendor, Herff Jones Cap and Gown, has set up an online ordering system that is very easy to complete for PC users, and somewhat slower for Mac users. Access the Herff Jones website here.

All Users:
Customer number (46000591000) and the order number (3707646).

Your order must be submitted no later than Friday, April 29. The College covers all rental expenses for regalia ordered and returned by the established deadlines, but not thereafter.

If you ordered during the past year:

  1. Scroll down to your name under “Faculty Name” to verify or edit your size and degree information. (NOTE: Support staff and administrators are also listed under “Faculty Name”).
  2. If no changes are necessary, click on

For first-time orders:

  1. Anticipate a short system delay to place your order; there may be a delay from the time you select “New Faculty Member” and click “Continue.”
  2. Please be sure to click “Confirm” when you’ve completed and verified your order.

You may also order through Lisa Smith in the Student Leadership Center via email at lsmi@shoreline.edu. We do encourage you, however, to try the online order system first.

Please mark your calendar to pick up your commencement wear between May 31 and June 3, but no later than Friday, June 3 by 3 p.m., in the Student Leadership Center, PUB 3rd floor. After that time, you may pick it up on the day of Commencement at the Issue Room in the lower level of the gymnasium, between 12:30 and 1:30 p.m.

After the commencement ceremony, we encourage you to wear your regalia to the reception for pictures with students. It is imperative that all caps, gowns and hoods be returned on Sunday, June 5, at the conclusion of the ceremony at the drop off area in the PUB, room 9202. We must ship the commencement wear the following day in order to avoid late charges.

Please contact Lisa Smith at (206) 546-5862 or lsmi@shoreline.edu if you have any questions or concerns.

Job Seekers’ Roundtable, Workforce Education (Ground Fl. FOSS)
Fri., March 11: 1-2:30 p.m.
office
Join us this Fri., March 11 for a Job Seekers’ Roundtable designed to get you placed through Accountemps! We’re in the Workforce Education Office (room 5116 in the bottom floor of FOSS, 5000 bldg.) from 1-2:30 p.m.

Are you ready to get a paycheck? Is it a temporary job you have in mind – that is, just something to make do until the dream job arrives — or is it something more permanent in an office setting? Either way, if you stop by Roundtable this Friday, your chances of becoming employed very soon will increase dramatically. Below is an excerpt from a very nice card I once received from Roundtable participant, Kathy Tiedman:

“My contact with your speaker from Accountemps facilitated contact with a recruiter at Robert Half and ultimately led to my placement in a long term, temporary position.”

Kathy went on to say that the experience boosted her confidence and has added some attractive cache to her resume. And wouldn’t you know it, Elizabeth Goodnow from Accountemps/Robert Half Agency is our featured guest for this Friday! Please come by, bring your resume and business card, and arrange for a one-on-one with Elizabeth. She and the folks at Accountemps have been awesome over the past couple years and have landed many Roundtablers much needed employment.

We’ll of course have coffee and treats on hand, compliments of Central Market. Have a friend or family member looking for work? Please bring them along.

See you this Friday – and as always, Good Luck Out There!

“Live! From the Last Night of My Life,” Campus Theater
Fri., March 11: 7:30 p.m.
live last night
Shoreline Community College Theater Department is proud to present Seattle based Wayne Rawley’s “Live! From the Last Night of My Life.”

Doug Sample is a man who has decided his experiment with life has, for all intents and purposes, failed. He has achieved nothing, accomplished nothing, and has nothing except his graveyard shift at a local gas station and Mini-Mart. He has decided that the best thing for everyone would be if he shot himself in the head, and he is planning to do it right in front of the Mini-Mart’s security cameras at the end of this, his last shift. But before the night is over, Doug will be visited by his past, his present, his possible futures, and some particularly annoying customers as he struggles with some of life’s most challenging questions like “Why should I go on?”, “What does it all mean?”, and perhaps most importantly, “Did I remember to change the cherry syrup in the Slushie Machine?”

Written by Wayne Rawley and directed by Debra Pralle.

●Each open forum will be recorded and burnt to DVDs, which will be available in the Library.  Based on best practices related to national searches of this magnitude, the ACCT (Association of Community College Trustees), the group conducting the EVP-ASA search, requested that we not “stream live” or upload the open forums to video sharing sites.  There will be a mechanism for those who view the DVDs to provide feedback on the candidates.

Questions regarding the EVP-ASA open forums may be directed to the Human Resources Office at 206-546-4769.
