Dear Colleague,

You may have received Rave Alert text or email messages this week regarding notice of an increased security and police presence on campus. I recognize this information may have been anxiety-provoking or confusing, so here is some additional information I can share at this time.

The timely notice was provided soon after the College received a report of a potential threat against an individual on campus. Specific details about the situation are not able to be shared publicly, but the College is taking this report seriously, out of an abundance of caution.

In compliance with the federal Clery Act, timely warning notices are intended to alert you to a potential situation and remind you about standard safety precautions, such as being aware of your surroundings and reporting any concerning activity. There was no specific action for you to take. (If there had been a need for you to take a specific action, such as avoiding campus or sheltering in place, you would have been directed to do so via text, email, phone, website, and social media.)

While the current investigation continues, the campus remains open with a heightened level of security. Here are some of the steps we’ve taken to ensure campus safety:

• Requested assistance from local law enforcement agencies to regularly patrol campus through the end of the quarter (if needed)
• Stationed additional security personnel around campus
• Reached out to select employees who may be able to provide specific assistance to this situation
• Safety & Security, the Care Team, and the Executive Team are in regular contact to review and respond to any developments
• Members of the Care Team are providing support to the individual who was threatened

Any further developments will be shared with you as they become available. In the meantime, if you are feeling distressed or in need of compassionate support, particularly at this critical time of the quarter, students are encouraged to reach out to the Counseling Center (206-546-4594, FOSS Building 5000) and employees are invited to access services through the Employee Assistance Program (877-313-4455).
