Changes in the Office of Students, Equity & Success

Dear Colleague,

I am writing to notify you that Dr. Marisa Herrera has announced leaving her position as Vice President for Students, Equity & Success, effective today, Monday, November 2.

Given the current and forecasted future economic climate, the Vice President for Students, Equity & Success position will not be filled. Instead, some organizational shifts will take place to ensure the important work within the division continues seamlessly.

As of today, the departments in Students, Equity & Success will transition to the Office of Student Learning. Derek Levy, Dean of Student Success, and Lisa Malik, Dean of Access & Advising, and Sarah Pearce, Executive Assistant, will now report directly to Vice President Phillip King. During this transition period, Steve Eskridge, Director of Athletics, will report to Dean Levy.

Bringing all the student success and student learning areas together under one larger group will allow for stronger linkages between our strategic initiatives for Guided Pathways, Opportunity Gaps, and Strategic Enrollment Management. Many employees will recall that this is an organizational structure the College has had in the past, and Vice President King has experience leading both student learning and student success teams at other colleges.

Additionally, the Executive Team will continue to move forward with the plans outlined in the College’s budget reduction proposal to create a new diversity, equity, and inclusion-focused (DEI) position to advance our campus-wide DEI work. I will meet with the DEI Leadership Team and the Inclusive Excellence Steering Committee to discuss ways to support the important efforts they have begun moving forward this year.

I am deeply appreciative of Dr. Herrera’s work over the last three years at Shoreline and I would personally like to wish her the best of success in all future endeavors.

Respectfully,

Cheryl Roberts, Ed.D.
President
Office of the President
