Summer Pilot of Hybrid On-Campus Classes

Hello Shoreline students, faculty, and staff:

Summer instruction will begin on Monday, June 28, 2021. Given our region’s downward trend in COVID-19 infection rates and the success of King County vaccination efforts, the College is increasing its hybrid on-campus course offerings this summer.

As we gradually return to an in-person modality, safety continues to be our top priority. Students, faculty and staff should all be aware of the current COVID-19 protocols. Read the FAQs below for a reminder about the guidelines for on-campus presence.

How do I access campus?

  • If you are a student or visitor, you must submit a Campus Access form prior to arriving on campus. A new attestation is required each day. Upon arrival each day, students and visitors will be required to go to the check-in station in 2910.
  • If you are faculty or staff working remotely and need to access campus, you must submit a request to your supervisor who will contact the Executive Team for approval. Be sure to include the specific date, time duration, and reason in your request. Before coming to campus, be sure to fill out the Campus Access form prior to your arrival.
  • If you are faculty or staff with a regular on-campus assignment, you must submit the Campus Access form prior to coming to campus each day. You do not need to request approval to access campus.

What if I need to pick up or return materials to campus?

If you are only picking up or dropping off materials from your vehicle and not accessing any buildings or spaces on campus, you should use Shoreline’s Curbside Pickup/Drop-Off program, located in 2905. To access this service:

Executive Team approval is not required for an appointment, but make sure to notify the department from which the items will be borrowed before coming to campus.

What are the rules while on campus?

Mask wearing, social distancing, and cleaning practices continue for all on-campus activities. Hybrid class sizes have been adjusted to ensure appropriate social distancing and safety protocols. The College is following Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) guidelines regarding appropriate building air filtration.

Students must do the following when coming to campus:

  • Wear a mask at all times while indoors on campus, regardless of vaccination status
  • Mask wearing is not required while outdoors
  • Fill out a Campus Access Form to check in and out of campus each day
  • Stay home if you are feeling sick
  • Follow any specific class safety practices communicated at the start of the quarter

Employees coming to campus must continue to follow the practices described on the COVID-19 faculty/staff page

Do I need to be vaccinated?*

COVID-19 vaccinations are not currently required at Shoreline, but state higher education guidance could change in the future. The College strongly recommends all students and employees get a vaccine. Find a vaccine location near you

*Certain programs require students and faculty to be vaccinated. Students in these programs will have already been contacted.

What classes are on campus?

In addition to the limited set of professional & technical programs that have continuously been operating on campus throughout the pandemic, students can enroll in several different hybrid classes from a variety of programs and disciplines, including Biology, Drama, Human Development , Mathematics, and Physical Education. The full list can be found by searching the online class schedule and filtering for “Partly Online.”

What student services are on campus?

All student services will continue to operate remotely throughout Summer quarter. As we plan for a gradual return to on-campus services in the fall, we will do all that we can to ensure a safe environment for students, faculty, and staff.

Certain areas in the Pagoda Union Building (PUB) will be open from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM Monday through Thursday. Mask wearing will be required except while eating. Social distancing will be required. Areas open to students include:

  • 2nd floor bathrooms (main floor)
  • Food area (main floor)
  • 2nd floor lobby (main floor)

The first and third floors of the PUB will remain closed.

Please reference the College’s COVID-19 Safety page COVID-19 Safety page for more detailed FAQs and the most up-to-date information about the College’s guidelines.

Thank you for your cooperation with the guidelines listed above. I am confident that by working together, our campus will continue to be a safe and productive environment for all.

Sincerely,

Phillip J. King
Vice President for Student Learning, Equity & Success
