Over the next few weeks, the Commencement Committee will be sharing weekly updates related to this year’s in-person ceremonies that will take place on Saturday, June 18, 2022, at 10am and 2pm.  

Commencement Updates – Week of May 16 

• The deadline for students to apply to graduate was Monday, May 16. Students can still sign up to participate in Commencement until Sunday, May 22^nd at 11:59pm. All students who applied to graduate will receive one final reminder via e-mail. Additionally, information about regalia, Commencement tickets, etc., will be sent out to all students that have signed up to participate in the ceremonies. This information can also be found on the Commencement website. 
• We’re about 30 days away from Commencement and the College will be launching a series of social media posts to get students excited. Please like and share these messages when you see them to help spread the word!  
• Volunteers are still needed for various roles during both the morning and afternoon ceremonies. Faculty and staff who help with both ceremonies will be provided with lunch. For more information and to sign up to help, click here.

On behalf of Shoreline Community College, we wanted to reach out to the campus community to express our concern for students, staff, and family members who may be impacted by the recent event that unfolded in Buffalo. This racially motivated attack impacts those in the African American community even more than other identities.

Please know that we have resources available to both students and staff to counsel you through any potential emotional distress from this event. There are a variety of support systems available through our counseling services team for our students. Or to submit a report in support of a student, please contact Shoreline’s CARE team. International students who need support are encouraged to reach out to the International Education department.

With the encouragement and support of VP Phillip King, Guided Pathways is funding two large teams participating in valuable equity-centered professional learning. 

A team of 16 people (mix of Classified, Faculty, and Admin) will be participating in the Gardner Institute’s “Equity in Retention Academy.” This is a 5-week virtual learning experience that prepares teams to “conduct an evidence-based, equity-focused student retention planning process.” The work begins May 31 and runs through to the end of June. 

A team of 10 people (mix of Classified and Admin) will be attending the National Conference on Race & Ethnicity (NCORE) in Higher Education. The event is in-person during the week of May 31.

Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD) is an internationally-celebrated event that takes place annually on the third Thursday of May. This year GAAD is coming up on Thursday, May 19. 

GAAD is an annual global event, designed to engage people around the world in talking, thinking, and learning about digital access and inclusion. Additional information about GAAD and online events is available on the GAAD website.
