Hey folks, I hope you are having a good week. It’s been a busy one in the president’s office.
I attended Shoreline’s State of the City and was able to speak a bit with Representative Davis and Shayna Daitch (the rep for Senator Murray) about some areas of shared interest (and of course making sure they are repping Shoreline College out there!). I will keep you updated with that.
I was able to attend the Phi Theta Kappa ceremony, which was really wonderful. Larger crowd than usual (from what I could tell) and Audrey Reuter did a great job as usual as mentor and MC. The students were so excited and proud of their work. I also attended the American Democracy: Indigenous Roots & Future event. I learned a lot about America’s burgeoning democracy and the Indigenous influences on its development – really fascinating.
Though it wasn’t in our general area, I did want to mention the explosion at the Nippon Dynawave Packaging Company in Longview, Washington. Eleven folks were pronounced dead – a tragic loss. I know WFSE made a statement about it as I understand the majority (if not all) were classified employees. Such a horrible situation for our colleagues and loved ones in Longview. If you happen to know anyone affected, please reach out.
I also wanted to share some positive news. Matt Jorgensen (Music Tech) and Jason Devore contributed to three animated spots for Cascade Public Television, with Matt on music and Jason on sound design – the second spot also features Jeff Kashiwa on the sax. They already won a Telly Award for their work, and just this weekend, they also won a regional Emmy! Stay tuned for a press release!
Cheers,
Jack

Hopelink Mobile Market Coming to Campus
Starting Tuesday, June 2, Hopelink, Shoreline’s largest food bank and human services agency, will be bringing their Mobile Market food truck to campus. Unlike the food trucks that park in front of the PUB, Hopelink’s truck will offer groceries (produce, meat, uncooked grains, etc.), which will be free of charge and available to any Shoreline College student, staff person, or faculty member as well as any community member.
The Mobile Market will be located in the student parking lot by 1400 building on the first and third Tuesdays of each month. For now, they’ll be in service from 1 – 2 pm, with the possibility of expanded hours later this year.
Foundation/Advancement/Alumni
White Commencement Cords
Graduates wearing white cords at Commencement are recipients of scholarships from the Shoreline College Foundation. These scholars earned this honor by pursuing their educational goals with exemplary resilience and dedication. These cords also serve as a testament to the generosity of Foundation donors on campus and in the community whose contributions empower students to achieve their dreams.
Welcoming New Shoreline College Alumni!
Every graduate at this month’s Commencement ceremony is entering the broader family of Shoreline College Alumni. The official Shoreline College Alumni Network is a great way for graduates to stay engaged with the friends and classmates, receive updates about what’s happening on campus, build networks and career opportunities, and find ways to support current and future students through mentorship, community activities, and donations. Please encourage your graduates to stay part of the Phin Family by signing up for the Shoreline College Alumni Network.
