Campus Updates 7/2/2026

Hi folks,

This week was a great reminder of the power of partnerships, innovation, and continuous learning.

One of the highlights was helping advance and celebrate Shoreline’s historic Bachelor of Applied Science in Dental Hygiene, offered in partnership with the University of Washington School of Dentistry. We recently recognized the first cohort of students to earn bachelor’s degrees from Shoreline, a significant milestone for both the College and the profession. I could not be more proud of our graduates, faculty, and staff who helped make this achievement possible. For those interested in learning more, you can read this story about the Dental Hygiene graduation.

I also had the opportunity to share another outstanding Shoreline alumni story. You can read the recent alumni spotlight of Tom Ranken, class of 2023, here

A significant portion of my week was spent participating in the Muckleshoot Indian Tribe Effective Teaching Institute alongside 23 Shoreline faculty, staff, and administrators. Over three days, we learned about Indigenous history, language, education, tribal consultation, and culturally responsive practices. One of the most impactful experiences was learning about salmon preservation efforts and visiting several tribal facilities, including the Muckleshoot Tribal School, Wellness Center, Behavioral Health Equine Program, and government buildings. I was grateful to participate in these experiences alongside Shoreline colleagues Tsai-En Cheng and Lizbeth Agapito. The Institute provided valuable context for understanding the extraordinary work occurring throughout the Muckleshoot community and reinforced the importance of strengthening our relationships with Tribal nations and communities.  Hope to see YOU there next year 😊

We were also pleased to welcome Representative Lauren Davis and State Board representative Sam Grant Herriot to Shoreline. Their visit included a tour of the new Bracken Building, which supports our nursing, music, music technology, and mathematics programs, as well as a visit to the Parent Child Center. These visits help us showcase the remarkable work happening across campus while strengthening relationships with partners who support our mission and our students.

In addition to these community engagement activities, I continued work on budgets, procedure updates to strengthen operational effectiveness and fiscal stewardship, as well as supporting ongoing accreditation planning and documentation efforts that help ensure Shoreline remains focused on continuous improvement and student success!

Overall, it was a week filled with learning, partnership building, celebrating student and alumni achievement, and moving important College initiatives forward. I continue to be inspired by our employees, students, and community partners and am grateful for the opportunity to serve such an exceptional institution.

Cheers,

Jack
