In an effort to align our authentication methods with current security best practices and strengthen the overall security of the ctcLink environment, the SBCTC will be making a change to the way Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is used with ctcLink.

Beginning Monday, October 26, 2026, the Email option will no longer be available as a method for Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) within the ctcLink Okta environment.

Why is this changing?

As part of a systemwide security initiative across Washington’s community and technical colleges, Email is being removed as an MFA option because email accounts can be vulnerable to phishing, password reuse, and other forms of compromise. Removing Email as an authentication factor helps reduce security risks and encourages the use of stronger, more secure methods.

Recommended MFA options include:

  • Authenticator Apps (Google, Okta Verify, Microsoft)
  • Security keys (such as YubiKeys)

What do I need to do?

We recommend prior to October 26, 2026, you verify your MFA options in ctcLink. If you are already using an MFA method other than Email, no action is required at this time.

If Email is currently your only MFA method, you will be prompted to choose and enroll in another MFA option the next time you log in after October 26, 2026. We encourage you to update your MFA settings before that date to avoid any interruption when accessing ctcLink services.

Need Help?

Instructions for setting up and managing MFA options are available through the ctcLink Reference Center:

Employees: HCM Employee Self Service Okta – Multi-Factor Authentication – select Setting Up Your Multi-Factor Recovery Options

Students: Student Self Service Okta – Multi-Factor Authentication – select Setting Up Your Multi-Factor Recovery Options

Did you know August is National Make-A-Will Month? It’s an important reminder to make, or adjust, your plan whenever you experience a major life change. New baby? Purchasing a new home? Recent graduation? Changes in your or a loved one’s health? These are all great times to take another look at your accounts and make sure everything is set up the way you want. If you’d like to arrange a bequest for the Shoreline College Foundation to support a specific program or to establish a scholarship fund, contact us at sccfoundation@shoreline.edu or visit shoreline.edu/foundation/giving to learn more.

Guided Pathways:

  1. The Navigate360 implementation team has now sent out invitations to create an advisory group. This group, which will meet once a month, will bring in voices from many areas across student services and instruction to make sure that the Navigate implementation will serve the needs of the college as a whole
  2. Technical implementation is now underway, to allow data extracted from CTCLink to be sent to Navigate. This is the first concrete step towards getting Navigate ready to turn on
  3. The functional team has nearly completed Shoreline workflow discovery for the CRM side. The next step will be working with programs with selective admission to make sure their workflows are also reflected. If your area has selective admission, be on the lookout for outreach from our team in the coming weeks to get that going.
  4. If you have questions about Navigate360 or Starfish, please reach out to Caitlin Jacques, cjacques@shoreline.edu, or Ry Sohn, rsohn@shoreline.edu.
