Campus Updates 10/1/2026

Hello all, hope your week is going well.

This week included continued work on policy development, budget planning, and preparation for upcoming work this year. I also had the opportunity to connect with students, employees, community members, and partners through several campus and community events as we welcomed students back to campus.

Several highlights included attending the student Bubble Tea event (which was totally packed – heard the tea was great), serving pizza alongside our Student Life team during the popular Pizza with the President Welcome Week activity (Ok I did have 3 pieces…), and celebrating with students at the Foundation’s Donors and Scholars reception. It was inspiring to see scholarship recipients connect directly with the donors who invest in their success!  It was really powerful.

I also had the opportunity to attend the Turkmenistan Independence Day celebration hosted by the Oasis Foundation and meet with Tribal leaders from the Suquamish Tribe and representatives from the Muckleshoot Tribal College to discuss continued collaboration in support of Indigenous communities and educational opportunities. Thank you to VP Ramos and Amalia Akagi and everyone who helped organize these events and create meaningful opportunities for connection, belonging, and student success across our campus and community.  And it is sunny today- enjoy!

Cheers,

Jack

Action Required: Email MFA Option Being Retired October 26, 2026

To align our authentication methods with current security best practices and strengthen the overall security of the ctcLink environment, the SBCTC will be making a change to the way Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is used with ctcLink.

Beginning Monday, October 26, 2026, the Email option will no longer be available as a Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) method within ctcLink.

Why is this changing?

As part of a systemwide security initiative across Washington’s community and technical colleges, Email is being removed as an MFA option because email accounts can be vulnerable to phishing, password reuse, and other forms of compromise. Removing Email as an authentication factor helps reduce security risks and encourages the use of stronger, more secure methods.

Recommended MFA options include:

  • Authenticator Apps (Google, Okta Verify, Microsoft)
  • Security keys (such as YubiKeys)

What do I need to do?

Prior to October 26, 2026, please verify your selected MFA options in ctcLink. If you are already using an MFA method other than Email, no additional action is required at this time.

If Email is currently your only MFA method, you will be prompted to choose and enroll in another MFA option the next time you log in after October 26, 2026. We encourage you to update your MFA settings before that date to avoid any login interruptions when accessing ctcLink services.

Need Help?

Instructions for setting up and managing MFA options are available through the ctcLink Reference Center:

Employees: HCM Employee Self Service Okta – Multi-Factor Authentication – select Setting Up Your Multi-Factor Recovery Options

Students: Student Self Service Okta – Multi-Factor Authentication – select Setting Up Your Multi-Factor Recovery Options

Thank you for helping us maintain a secure and reliable technology environment for our college community.

Guided Pathways:

1. We have a new member of the Navigate360 implementation team to announce. Lauren Carey has joined us a temporary business analyst for the next year. She will focus on campus stakeholder engagement to help accelerate our implementation.

2. The Navigate360 functional team has now begun making important implementation decisions, starting with determining which parts of the platform different stages of the student cycle will live in. The team has also begun the process of mapping the ideal future state of onboarding, to ensure that software decisions align with that.

For more details on both of these updates, see this recording of the latest Advisory Board meeting: 09-30-26.
