Campus Updates 10/8/2026

Hey folks, hope all are well.

This last week has been more “nose to the grindstone” than community connections.  Working on budget, policy prep for next year, as well as various other projects. At the end of last week, I participated in the WACTC monthly presidents meeting via Zoom.  I missed seeing my colleagues in-person but did get some info I will bring to future meetings.

Also, I wanted to thank folks who filled out suggestions and comments at Convocation.  We are just going through these, but I wanted to share some things that people are already doing to support students – THANK YOU!

  • Supporting recruitment events
  • Choosing readings they can relate to and benefit from
  • Providing students & applicants a way to connect w/ our team via text message
  • Keeping the landscape nice so they want to be on campus
  • Discussing nursing education options and opportunities with young adult kids of friends and family.
  • Creating easy to understand instructions on how to apply to our program.
  • Clarifying misconceptions about our services (yes, they are for you, too!)
  • Building partnerships with K-12
  • Attending events such as orientations and working with students individually
  • Helping them get logged into their ctclink account.
  • Streamlining department processes to maximize customer service for all students, faculty, and staff

Hope the rest of the week goes well for you.

Cheers,

Jack

Ballot Boxes

Just in time for election day, Shoreline College is now home to a ballot drop box!

This year, election day is Tuesday, Nov. 3, and the new drop box, located across from the 1000 Building next to the visitor parking lot, provides a secure and convenient place to return your ballot.

A special thank you to Joe Mazur, Lavina Seawright, Derek Levy, Julie Bathke, Campus Safety, and Facilities for their work in bringing this important resource to our campus!

International Education

Here at Shoreline, we have a working group of faculty and staff called Global Learning at Shoreline or GL@S for short.  GL@S work group members are those with interest in partnering with the International Education department to host international guest lecturers, to present global-themed open lectures in one’s area of expertise and/or recent research, to support Shoreline study abroad programs, and other similar work.

Please join us for our Fall meeting:

Temporary Relocation of Avanti Markets PICO 360 Coolers to Maple Student Union (9000) Seating Area

The Avanti Markets PICO 360 Coolers will be temporarily relocated along the walls of the seating area in the Maple Student Union, Building 9000, in the coming days. Two microwaves will also be moved and installed on the counters by the self-service coffee dispensers (not pictured). The coolers and microwaves are being moved so the Upper Crust Food Service can prepare the space for expected opening on November 1st.  Please see two generative AI assisted pictures below for the proposed locations of the coolers. Please note that the final number of installed machines may vary from what is pictured below due to the space limitations and power requirements needed:

Action Required: Email MFA Option Being Retired October 26, 2026

Hello Campus Community,

To align our authentication methods with current security best practices and strengthen the overall security of the ctcLink environment, the SBCTC will be making a change to the way Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is used with ctcLink.

Beginning Monday, October 26, 2026, the Email option will no longer be available as a Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) method within ctcLink.

Why is this changing?

As part of a systemwide security initiative across Washington’s community and technical colleges, Email is being removed as an MFA option because email accounts can be vulnerable to phishing, password reuse, and other forms of compromise. Removing Email as an authentication factor helps reduce security risks and encourages the use of stronger, more secure methods.

Recommended MFA options include:

  • Authenticator Apps (Google, Okta Verify, Microsoft)
  • Security keys (such as YubiKeys)

What do I need to do?

Prior to October 26, 2026, please verify your selected MFA options in ctcLink. If you are already using an MFA method other than Email, no additional action is required at this time.

If Email is currently your only MFA method, you will be prompted to choose and enroll in another MFA option the next time you log in after October 26, 2026. We encourage you to update your MFA settings before that date to avoid any login interruptions when accessing ctcLink services.

Need Help?

Instructions for setting up and managing MFA options are available through the ctcLink Reference Center:

Employees: HCM Employee Self Service Okta – Multi-Factor Authentication - select Setting Up Your Multi-Factor Recovery Options

Students: Student Self Service Okta – Multi-Factor Authentication - select Setting Up Your Multi-Factor Recovery Options

Questions?

If you need assistance updating your MFA settings or have questions about this change, please contact TSS by visiting https://support.shoreline.edu.

Thank you for helping us maintain a secure and reliable technology environment for our college community.
