Today’s National Distance Learning Week Feature: Online Student Success Coaching

National Distance Learning Week is an annual effort to generate greater awareness and appreciation for distance learning, sponsored by the United States Distance Learning Association.  Shoreline Community College is celebrating by posting a daily announcement that highlights an aspect of our eLearning program. Today, we provide support for online students through study tips and Success Coaching.

Student Success Coaching is a professional relationship in which the coach will assist students in identifying and using strengths to overcome challenges and create successes. Coaching is a student-centered approach that introduces students to resources, tools, and helps them explore strategies for creating a foundation for success in college and life. International Education Week Events for Fri., Nov. 13

Nov. 9-13 is International Education Week! Come celebrate with us and learn about different cultures with a whole host of fun events, including these featured events for Fri., Nov. 13:

Badminton Tournament: 10 a.m. – 1:30 p.m., Fri., Nov. 13, Main Gym (3000 bldg.)
Played around the world for fitness and fun, badminton is easy to learn but hard to master. Students will compete to see which team will rule the day and take home the prize.

PUB Quiz: 1-2:30 p.m., Fri., Nov. 13, PUB Quiet Dining Room (9208)
Teams of four students will participate in a Pub Quiz-style contest, answering questions about geography, world cultures, and world history to see who knows the most about our world and who will take home the prize.

Pack the Stands As Shoreline Soccer Heads Into NWAC Championships Sat., Nov. 14

Our Shoreline Women’s Soccer team has made it into the NWAC Championships this weekend at the Starfire Complex in Tukwila. Let’s pack the stands with green and gold and show our Phins support!

This is the first trip to the final four for Women’s Soccer since 2008. Shoreline will take on Spokane at 10:30 a.m. on Sat., November 14. A win in this match would give the Phins their first ever trip to the NWAC final on Sun., Nov. 15 at 3 p.m. This will be the 4th straight elimination game for the Phins and their 3rd straight match against a region champion.

The place to be this weekend is Starfire! Make sure you wear your Phin Game Day shirts. If you don’t have one yet stop by the bookstore and pick up your Green & Gold Game Day t-shirts for $6.75. Let’s make it a sea of Green and Gold! Ticket prices to the NWAC Championships at Starfire are broken down below:

Women’s Volleyball Wins #1 in North Region

In its last regular season match, Shoreline Dolphins Volleyball defeats cross town rival Edmonds Tritons in 3 straight sets to capture NWAC North Region crown at Tritons Gym, Lynnwood, Washington on November 10, 2015.

Our Women’s Volleyball team defeated Edmonds Community College Tuesday night to officially win the title of #1 in the North Region. They are also ranked #6 in the entire Northwest Athletic conference (NWAC) in the NWAC Coaches Poll.

Now that they’ve gained the title for the North Region, the Phins will head to the NWAC Championships to try and secure the title of champs of the NWAC. The tournament will be held Nov. 19-22 – stayed tuned for details. In the meantime, give a big shout out of congrats to our Phins! #GoPhins #PhinPride #FirstPlacePhins
