Shoreline offers condolences in Seattle bus accident

Shoreline Community College offers deep condolences and heartfelt support to all those affected by the tragic bus accident today, Sept. 24, in Seattle involving international students and staff from North Seattle College.

The community college and international student communities are close-knit. While no Shoreline students or staff were in the accident, Shoreline is making its counseling resources available to all its students and employees who may feel the need for support at this time. In addition, Shoreline is offering counseling resource support to its North Seattle colleagues as needed.

“During these times of sudden and unimaginable tragedy, coming together to support one another is all the more important,” Shoreline Community College President Cheryl Roberts said. “Our thoughts are with all those who are impacted by today’s events.”

Update:

Bloodworks Northwest has asked for blood donations to help cope with the tragedy. For more information about how and where to donate, go to Bloodworks Northwest, (formerly Puget Sound Blood Center).

Free Learning Centers and Tutoring Services for Students on Campus

Happy Fall Quarter!

Here is a list of the various Learning Centers around campus where students can go for extra support. The Learning Centers are free to students to use and are staffed with tutors ready and waiting to help, so please make sure to use them! Additionally, we’re doing some conversation groups again this quarter as we did in Spring. Anyone can go to these groups to practice French, English, or Japanese. Spanish will hopefully be added soon. Here is more information about conversation groups.

In addition, Tutoring Services is open from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday-Thursday and 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. on Fridays in Room 4203.  Tutoring can happen anytime campus is open, though if it’s a hardship to come to our office during those hours, students have the option to complete an application online.

OpCom Team Renamed Admin Team

As we prepare to enthusiastically welcome students for Fall classes this week, please note that the former “OpCom” (Operations Committee) has recently been renamed the Admin Team (Administration Team). Accordingly, the listserv for all administrators is also being renamed. If you were previously subscribed to the OpCom listserv, and are not currently employed as a College administrator, you will need to individually re-subscribe to the Admin Team listserv to continue to receive information sent to administrators. You may subscribe to the (ADMINTEAM) listserv via http://list.shoreline.edu/mailman/listinfo. Thank you!
