The dinner portion of tonight’s 2015 Annual Athletic Banquet has sold out! We will not have tickets available at the door this evening, Fri., May 29.
If you have not already bought your ticket you can still be a part of this great evening. Anyone interested in honoring our student-athletes can join us tonight at 8:15 p.m. in the PUB for the awards ceremony and dance.
The Shoreline Portfolio Show is planned and executed by the Shoreline VCT (Visual Communications Technology) Club. The students have worked all year with invaluable assistance from the Student Leadership Center and the f-stop Photography Club. Come check out student work in graphic design, animation and game art & design. The event will be held Tues., June 2-3 at Melrose Market Studios on Capitol Hill, 5-9 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.

Today’s Tip: Captioning Video Content
We’ve been reading lately about universities such as MIT and Harvard being sued for lack of video captioning. While captioning is absolutely necessary for those who are hard-of-hearing, captions are also incredibly helpful for English language learners. A recent study found that 80% of viewers that use captions are in fact not deaf or hard of hearing, but simply prefer captioned content. Closed captions can improve video comprehension for all viewers, and as we use more video content in our courses, captioning becomes more important. We are taking a proactive approach here at Shoreline, where faculty were surveyed this year about the types of video content they are using for learning activities. While faculty are welcome to provide their own video captioning, eLearning is here to help. Unlike many other colleges, we have set aside funds specifically for captioning instructional video content. Do you have videos that you use on a regular basis that need captioning? Join the Athletic Department on May 29 at 7:30 p.m. in the PUB for our annual celebration recognizing our student-athletes with athletic and academic awards from the Northwest Athletic Conference and other special team awards.
Entertainment at the dress-up affair will include live music, motivational speaker Mark Matteson, a silent auction, a southern-style dinner and dancing.
Tickets are:
$12 for seniors, students and children
$15 for general-public adults

The banquet was started in 1998 and ran consecutively through 2006 before going on hiatus. Last year, we were glad to bring it back to celebrate our Shoreline student-athletes!
In addition to the banquet, which starts at 7:30 p.m., there will be a silent auction to raise funds for our Athletic Department starting at 6:30 p.m. A dance will immediately follow the dinner and award ceremony.
Seating is limited, so please get your tickets right away. We hope to see you there!
All Shoreline faculty and staff are invited to an All-Campus Update with Dr. Bob Hughes on Fri., May 29, from 1-3 p.m. in Room 2308. Dr. Hughes is a consultant recently retained by the College to support and improve our outreach, recruitment and hiring processes. The purpose of this update is to explain and discuss the college-wide process he will facilitate beginning next Fall in the 2015-16 academic year.
