Monday, Oct. 13:

Free writing workshop on writing under pressure at 10:30 a.m. in room 1501. Please remind students about this great resource for students to learn how to prepare for timed writing tests and follow a six-step plan for writing essay test answers.

The Queer Film Festival continues with a screening of God Loves Uganda: Have you heard the good news? at 12:30 p.m. in the PUB quiet dining room.

Tuesday, Oct. 14:

All-Hazards training in room 9208 at 12 p.m. The training is mandatory for all faculty and staff and is offered at various dates and times (click the link to see more dates).

Free ZUMBA in 3025 at 12:35. You burn calories while having fun. Dance experience not necessary. Room is dimly lit and we don’t judge, so come check it out! Every Tuesday and Thursday at 12:35!

Canvas Grade Book Training will be offered two times this week. Please join us to learn how to set up and use the Canvas Grade Book effectively. Join us in room 1401 at 11:30 a.m.

Wednesday, Oct. 15:

Application for Fall graduation is due! Please remind students that if they are planning on graduating this quarter to get their application in.

The Global Affairs Center will be hosting a global eyes series event on Washington State-Japan Relations: Looking Toward a Mutually Prosperous Future in the PUB Quiet Dining Room at 12:30 p.m. followed by a meeting with Japan consulate staff in room 9202.

Canvas Grade Book Training will be offered two times this week. Please join us to learn how to set up and use the Canvas Grade Book effectively. Join us in room 1401 at 1:30 p.m.

Thursday, Oct. 16:

Free workshop on preparing for and taking tests in room 1501 at 1 p.m. Please remind students about this great resource!

The Global Affairs Center will be hosting an event that is part of the Humanities and Social Change Symposium at 7 p.m. The event, “The Cultural Roots of Urban-Acoustic-Folk-Soul Music” will have music and discussion with Reggie Garrett and the Snake-Oil Peddlers.

Friday, Oct. 17:

What does it mean to have good hair? We all have ideas about this! Come watch Chris Rock’s film “Good Hair” at 12:45 p.m. in the PUB room 9102 and join in on the discussion!  Sponsored by interested students and the Women’s Center.

October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month

50 years ago President Johnson signed  the Civil Rights Act which banned discrimination by race, color, religion, sex or national origin.  This legislation accelerated a movement to extend the same protection to people with disabilities. This resulted in the adoption of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act in 1970’s and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) in 1990 providing the same rights and protections.

This year’s theme is “Expect. Employ. Empower.  Read President Obama’s Proclamation of National Disability Employment awareness month.

Marty Brown, Executive Director of the State Board for Community and Technical Colleges, visited Shoreline Community College on Thursday, Oct. 9. 2014, to meet with college President Cheryl Roberts. The pair met in Roberts’ office to discuss a variety of topics.

Saturday, Oct. 11:

Men’s and Women’s soccer takes on Everett on the road. Women’s game starts at 12 p.m. and Men’s at 2:15 p.m.

Check out the new F-150

Michael Boehm, Director of Dealer Services & Manufacturer Relations in the Automotive program wanted to pass along an invitation from Ford to check out the new 2015 F-150. The free event will be at Dunn Lumber in Shoreline on Oct. 15.
