Honors program

Dear Colleagues,

The Honors Program is now recruiting students for the 2014-15 academic year.  We would appreciate it if you could discuss the opportunities that the program can offer with your students.  Members of the Honors Committee would be happy to visit your classes for a brief 5 minute (or less?) presentation.  Please let me know if you would like someone to visit your class.

There will be an Honors Orientation session for prospective students in the Board Room on Tuesday, June 3 at 12:30.  Our current Honors students will be presenting their work in the Board Room on Wednesday, June 4 at 12:30.

Honors gives students the opportunity to work in-depth on a year-long project while developing research and presentation skills.  Students get to work closely with a faculty mentor and develop skills and knowledge that will be a tremendous advantage for their upper division work.   The program consists of ten credits (5 in Fall, 3 in Winter and 2 in Spring).  Credits can be applied to Humanities and Social Sciences distribution requirements.

Here is a brochure outlining the program and a copy of the application form.

Thanks for your support in the past and  any help you can offer the program in the future.

A message from Cheryl Roberts

Dear Shoreline Community College colleagues,

Cheryl-Roberts-cropWords cannot adequately express my excitement as I prepare to begin my work at Shoreline. This is truly a remarkable opportunity for me and I look with hopeful anticipation to Aug. 18, my first day on campus, and what the future holds.

William Bridges put it so aptly in his book Transitions, “Transitions begin with an ending and end with a beginning.” I am truly experiencing all the emotions associated with bringing closure to my work at Chemeketa Community College, while feeling all the hopefulness associated with making plans to begin my work with you at Shoreline.

Being part of a vibrant college community is about developing strong relationships – relationships that create the conditions where students can experience the best within themselves as they achieve their educational goals. It’s also important for us to have working relationships and conditions where we can do our best work. I look forward to lively and caring conversations where we focus on ways to do our best work for students and the community we serve. I am also eager to work closely with you to continue the strong tradition of educational excellence at Shoreline.

All the best as you bring this academic year to a close!

With warmest regards,

Cheryl
