All campus meeting changed to May 9

Dear Campus Community,

I am very pleased to be back from “travel status.”  The trip to Korea, China and Cambodia was incredibly successful and allowed me and other SCC personnel to reconnect and re-engage with longtime and new College partners, as well as, establish new relationships with many institutions.  I have been unfortunately a bit under the weather since returning, but am on the mend and looking forward to returning to campus at the end of this week.

In order to provide as comprehensive a Spring All Campus Meeting as possible, the All Campus Meeting originally scheduled for this Friday – May 2 (from 12:30 – 2 p.m.), will be postponed to Friday, May 9, 2014 (from 12:30 – 2 p.m.).

Spring All Campus Meeting topics:

  • President’s Message (including Presidential Transition; 2014 – 2015 Budget & Strategic Action Plans – Organizational Impacts of Transition)
  • The Future of the Virtual College
  • State of the College: 2013-14 Year-End Projections

Thank you so much for your support, energy and commitment to our students, and to our work.

Gov. Jay Inslee came to Shoreline Community College to sign an executive order intended to reduce carbon pollution in Washington and push for clean energy technologies.

At an April 29, 2014 press conference in the Professional Automotive Training Center, Inslee signed an executive order to establish the Carbon Emissions Reduction Taskforce composed of 21 leaders from business, labor, health and public interest organizations. The group will provide recommendations to the governor on design and implementation of a market-based carbon pollution program.

Policy 6260 updated

The Faculty Senate updated the procedures of Policy 6260 on grading.  Most of the changes were made to clarify deadlines and definitions and to make the policy more workable for both students and faculty.  The changes will be outlined at the All-Faculty Senate meeting on Wednesday, May 28 at 2:30 pm.  Workshops to discuss the changes will be offered during Opening Week of Fall Quarter. Policy 6260 can be viewed on the intranet.

Governor Inslee coming to campus Tuesday, April 29

As Shoreline prepares to welcome Governor Inslee to campus, here are a few reminders to help make it a smooth visit.

First, the schedule: Inslee will arrive around 9:45 a.m. for a brief welcome before heading over to the Automotive Center. He will meet with the press and with a task force until he leaves around noon.

Now the fun stuff!

Arrive early because parking will be a little tighter than usual! The Governor will be announcing the next steps in his new energy plan and bringing a task force, guests and press with him to campus. There will be certain areas in the parking lots blocked off for our guests so arrive earlier than you normally would to make sure you are not late.
