Reminder: Spring Quarter Campus Community Update on Fri., May 20

The College’s Strategic Plan 2016-2021 and our refreshed Vision and Mission statement can be found here.

At our Campus Community Update on Friday, May 20, the majority of our time will be spent in discussion with you about the implementation of the plan. Please come to hear about, and get involved in, the next chapter of our 2016-2021 Strategic Plan rollout. We have new committees formed to gather data, research best practices and recommend annual plans to  achieve our ambitious five (5) year goals. We’ll be asking you to participate in a poster session to understand the charters of the new committees and how you can participate in writing the narrative for Shoreline Community College’s preferred future in 2021.

We have results to celebrate also, so come hear about the tremendous progress we’ve made toward accomplishing our Areas of Focus for 2015-16.

Neah Bay High School’s Makah Language Club presents a language, culture and dance presentation of approximately 15 dances and will have explanations presented bilingually in Makah and English. Shoreline Community College’s, Jaylin Garcia, the reigning Makah Day Queen will join us.

Shoreline Community College presents this interactive whodunit mystery musical in Steampunk style.

The Mystery of Edwin Drood is a hilarious, interactive whodunit mystery musical that allows the audience to enter the action and become the ultimate detectives. The show is based on Charles Dickens’ unfinished novel of the same name. In small town of Chesterham, England, the young and charming Edwin Drood has been mysteriously murdered. But by whom? His leering romantic rival, John Jasper? The infamous purveyor of opium and vice, Princess Puffer? The mysterious Landless twins, newly arrived from Ceylon? Or someone else even more dastardly and villainous? Dickens passed away before he was able to reveal the culprit. Rupert Holmes’ award-winning musical solves this predicament by asking the audience to choose which character is the killer by putting it to a vote. Staged in metatheatrical manner by the Shoreline Community College Musical theater department, we have crafted a cast full of colorful characters while reflecting the modern world we live in today—Steampunk elements and gender bent roles. This charming and inventive musical is sure to intrigue and entertain any musical or mystery lover.

All actors play two parts. Each plays an actor of the Music Hall Royale and also the character he or she plays in their production of The Mystery of Edwin Drood.

Come on out to the Troy Wolff Memorial Tournament, Fri., May 20

troy wHead over to the gym Fri., May 20 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. to cheer on your favorite team in the Troy Wolff Memorial Tournament. This tournament benefits the Troy Wolff Memorial Humanities Scholarship Fund and Shoreline Community College Food Pantry.

The tournament is double elimination, and the finals will be June 2.

Evacuation Drill of 5000 Building, Wed., May 25, 2016

“For the things we have to learn before we can do them, we learn by doing them.” – Aristotle

Shoreline Community College will have a scheduled Evacuation Exercise of the 5000 Building on Wed., May 25, 2016. The intent of the exercise is to practice the quick evacuation of all three levels to ensure that, in the event of a true emergency, our campus members feel confident in how to respond. While this may be a brief disruption in our day, the value of practicing what to do and where to go is immeasurable.

Several Building Evacuation Monitors (trained volunteer employees) will take part in the exercise and will assist security officers with the evacuation. Please follow their direction and lead. When the alarm sounds on May 25, safely and quickly exit the 5000 Building and proceed to the nearest evacuation site. Signage outside the 5000 Building will indicate we are conducting a training exercise.

Please share this information with occupants of the building. While this is a practice exercise, we anticipate everyone’s commitment to evacuate. As the Security Department is on the first level of the building, please be advised that Security office staff will also be required to exit the building.

Learning what to do in the event of an emergency saves lives. Many employees and some students have completed the Get Ready Take Action – All-Hazards Emergency Preparedness Training, either in person or online. Many have viewed the posted training videos for a violent event in progress, or completed additional courses such as Incident Command 100 and 200 for Higher Education. Some have created small emergency kits for their car or workspace. As a community, we continue to strive towards being prepared to face an emergency event.

Athletics summer camps enrolling now!

Spread the word – Shoreline’s summer sports camps are now open for enrollment!

This summer features a whole host of options for volleyball enthusiasts in grades 5-12 led by Shoreline’s co-head coach Raquel Chumpitaz-West. For the 2015 season, West was named both North Region Coach of the Year and NWAC Coach of the Year.
