(Shoreline, Wash.) – The Shoreline Community College (Shoreline) Board of Trustees is pleased to announce the appointment of Rebecca Ringer selected by Washington Governor Jay Inslee in June 2022.

Ringer’s appointment is effective as of October 1, and her term will run through September 30, 2026. The Board is composed of five members appointed by the governor and confirmed by the Washington State Senate. Board members serve as the college’s policy-making body and are responsible for selecting, supervising, and evaluating the president.

Ringer will replace Trustee Catherine Post D’Ambrosio who served two terms from November 2013 to September 2022. She joins four other trustees, including Rebecca Chan, Tom Lux, Eben Pobee and Kim Wells.

Ringer recently retired after a 35-year career as a prominent trial lawyer. Prior to her Pacific Northwest law career, she practiced law on the East Coast for several years. She graduated with honors from the University of Kansas and later attended Cornell University School of Law. She enjoys time volunteering and playing tennis with her husband.

“I am honored to have been appointed to the Shoreline Community College Board of Trustees,” Ringer said. “I have long recognized Shoreline’s enormous value to our community. In addition to providing excellent educational opportunities, the college acts as a place where the community can gather for music, theater, science exhibits, cinema and more.”

Ad Hoc Accreditation Visit:  Faculty open forum 10/14, 12:30 – 1:00pm

You are invited to take part in an open forum about learning outcomes assessment on October 14, 2022, from 12:30 – 1:00pm in the Board Room (1010M) or by Zoom:  https://us02web.zoom.us/j/84793064056

The session is part of the full-day ad hoc accreditation visit from two evaluators from the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU), Shoreline’s accrediting agency. The purpose of the visit is to review Shoreline’s progress on two recommendations from the Fall 2020 comprehensive evaluation.

One of these recommendations is as follows:

Engage in assessment practices that focus on systematic and ongoing assessment of course learning outcomes that lead to program learning outcomes in general education, all instructional and student support areas. Assessments must be used to improve student learning outcomes and inform academic and learning support-planning and practices. (2020 Standard(s) 1.C.5;1.C.6;1.C.7)

The evaluator wants to gauge broad awareness and understanding of learning outcomes assessment, so has requested to meet with faculty who are not directly and recently involved in outcomes assessment currently or who might have been involved partially or in the past. Many of you have received invitations to take part in an interview session earlier in the day, and some of you will receive a specific Outlook invitation for the 12:30pm open forum. All faculty are welcome to attend and respond to questions relevant to this recommendation.
