Please tell your students about Student Life’s Leadership Certificate series

This fall, Shoreline’s Student Life program kicked off a new Leadership Certificate Series aimed at preparing students to be more informed and engaged individuals, leaders, and citizens. Any student who participates in three of the fall quarter 2020 workshops will earn a Leadership Certificate they can put on their resume. Read more about the series on the College’s news blog.

The kickoff event happened on Oct. 1, with 15 students in attendance! There are still four events students can join. The series schedule is:

Civic Engagement Workshop 10/15
With support form the League of Women Voters, this non-partisan workshop will discuss the importance of staying civically engaged in community, state, and government politics.

Identity Development Workshop 10/29
Students who attend this workshop will learn about their individual and intersecting identities and how they impact their perspectives, relationships, and experiences.

Problem Solving Workshop 11/12
Problem-solving and critical thinking skills are incredibly valuable in our personal and professional lives. This event will give students an opportunity to hone those skills in a fun online format.

Community Service Workshop 12/3
In the midst of all that is happening, it is more important than ever for us to think about how we can give back to our greater community. During this workshop, students will have an opportunity to give their time and energy to a community service project that will benefit a local non-profit organization.

Students can learn more on Student Life’s Facebook page or by contacting Sundi Musnicki at smusnicki@shoreline.edu.

Several Student Life promotions going on – please alert students

Student Life has several promotions happening for students over the next couple weeks. They’re intended to help keep students safe, get organized, and get engaged in civic duty – so, if staff and faculty could help spread the word, that’d be great! NOTE: promotions are open to current students only.

Bullet Journal Kits
The Arts & Entertainment Board and Student Life are giving away free bullet journal kits to current students! To sign up, go to http://bit.ly/DIYjournals and fill out the form by Wednesday, Oct. 14 to request yours! Supplies are limited.

#whyivote contest

Associated Student Government (ASG) invites all current Shoreline students to share the reason why they are voting in the 2020 election. Send us a photo of yourself and a quote answering the following: “I Vote Because…” Send your response to smusnicki@shoreline.edu by Monday, Oct. 19 to be entered into the drawing for a $50 Amazon gift card.

Please Note: This is not an opportunity to express personal political views. We want to share the reasons why people exercise their right to vote, not who or what they vote for.

SCOF Reusable Mask Giveaway
The Sustainability & Commuter Options Fee committee is offering free reusable cloth face masks to all current Shoreline students. To sign up for yours, go to https://bit.ly/SCOFcares and fill out the form. Supplies are limited, only available to students currently residing in the U.S.

September 29 Zoom Hall Responses & Recording

Dear Colleague,

Following up on our most recent budget-related Zoom Hall meeting on September 29, I wanted to share both the video recording and the written responses to the questions that we were not able to answer live during the meeting.

We will hold our next Zoom Hall meeting on Thursday, October 15 (1:30-3 p.m.). Please watch for the presentation slides to be provided to you a day in advance of the meeting, so that we can allow for more open time during the meeting for questions and answers.

Respectfully,

Cheryl Roberts, Ed.D.

Accreditation Open Forums, November 2

As many of you know, the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU), Shoreline’s accrediting body, will be conducting a virtual visit November 2 – 4 to evaluate the extent to which Shoreline meets the 2010 standards for mission fulfillment and sustainability. The evaluation committee has requested open forums with students, faculty, and staff on November 2nd.

Note that no administrative staff will be present for these sessions.

To help ensure that an adequate and representative group attends the session, please RSVP to the forums using this form: https://shoreline.formstack.com/forms/nwccu_rsvp.  Please note that an RSVP is not required to attend.

Associate (part-time) faculty who attend the session will receive compensation at the hourly rate from the Collective Bargaining Agreement with SCCFT.

To learn more about the accreditation process, you can self-enroll in the Accreditation Canvas site (https://shoreline.instructure.com/enroll/4W7K7X).  If you have questions about the open forums or the accreditation visit, please contact Bayta Maring, Shoreline’s accreditation liaison (bmaring@shoreline.edu).

Winter Quarter Classes & Operations

Dear Colleague,

Based on current public health information, Shoreline Community College will continue remote operations and remote instruction through winter quarter (which ends March 24, 2021).

For winter quarter, classes will be offered in the following formats:

  • Online: Constructed as 100% online (no specific day/time)
  • C19 Online: Temporarily online due to COVID-19 (no specific day/time)
  • On-Campus: Limited professional-technical classes may meet in person (specific days/times listed)

As with previous quarters, any employees or students who need to come to campus will be required to secure pre-authorization and follow our COVID-19 campus access protocols (learn more on the Faculty/Staff COVID-19 web page). The only campus buildings accessible to the public at this time are the Dental Hygiene Clinic and the Parent Child Center.

While I know we would all prefer to be back together on our beautiful campus again, given the continued transmission rates of COVID-19 in King County, this is the safest and best choice for our students and employees.

Respectfully,

Cheryl Roberts, Ed.D.
