Campus Updates 4/10/2025

Events and News

Looking out the window today and seeing a *slight* ray of Sunshine and hoping it stays.  It’s been a pretty rainy week with two fake springs this year (at least two) – let’s just do this!  It’s spring quarter, right? And today enrollment is up almost 4% compared to last year!

This has been a pretty busy week with more “run of the mill” items.  At the end of last week, we made some good progress on strategic action team items, worked on the PRFR accreditation report (and proudly, I have all my section drafts completed!), and had a lot of meetings with folks.

I also met with King County Presidents to discuss “the state of the state”, attended the Presidents’ Alliance on Immigration and International Students policy meeting, met with board members, did a fun tour of the new CECO space (it looks great if you haven’t seen it recently!!), hung out with some of our King County colleagues, and had a couple meetings with potential new partnerships for the college.

I want to invite you to next week’s state of the budget meeting on Wed., 4/16 at 3:00 PM in Room 1104 or on Zoom: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/83173429202

This meeting is intended to provide:

  1. An overview of the budget approval process in Washington state.
  1. An overview of the current budget situation in Washington state and the proposals from the House, the Senate, and the Governor.
  1. An understanding of what Shoreline CC has done thus far to prepare for the budget proposal(s).
  1. Answers to questions regarding next steps

And finally—I am hoping to get some plants in the ground this weekend.  Anyone growing anything fun?  Any suggestions?  Have a great week!

Cheers,

Jack

Cast Your Vote to Name the College

Over the past few months, we’ve discussed the possibility of changing our name from Shoreline Community College to Shoreline College. This has come up in meetings and conversations across campus, and we’ve appreciated the thoughtful feedback so many of you have already shared.

A college’s name is more than a title—it reflects our identity, our mission, and the direction we’re heading. As we consider this potential change, we want to be sure that it reflects who we are and who we aspire to be.

Many colleges across the state and country have made similar updates to better reflect their identity and offerings. But a change like this is significant, and it’s essential that we consider it carefully. This is not a decision we take lightly, and your voice is essential to the process.

We’ve put together a brief survey that outlines some of the key reasons people support or oppose the change. We hope you’ll take a few minutes to review these perspectives and share your thoughts.
