A Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday message from President Roberts

As we honor the enduring legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. this coming Monday, January 15th, I hope that each of us takes an opportunity to remember his incredible life and how his leadership inspires our College’s values of respect, inclusion, and engagement. May Dr. King’s teachings about justice, courage, and equality continue to encourage us not just on this one holiday, but throughout the year, and remind us to dream big and be fearless in the actions we take to make our college, our community, and the world a better place.

Respectfully,
Cheryl Roberts, Ed.D.
President

Leadership change – resource allocation & reporting

For the past several months, the Executive Team has been assessing how to allocate the functions previously performed by the position of Executive Director, Budget and Capital. This position supervised the Facilities Department and the Safety & Security Department, as well as budget activities of the College, and reported to Stuart Trippel, Senior Executive Director & CFO.

Having considered our needs for careful resource allocation and comprehensive financial reporting, in the context presented by a vacant position, the College has decided to enhance its finance and budget functions and change the executive director position to Director, Resource Allocation & Reporting. This position will continue to report to Stuart Trippel and will supervise the budget office. The Facilities Department and the Safety & Security Department will also continue to report to Mr. Trippel. No additional funding will be required, because the previous executive director position will be eliminated.

Since the vast majority of the College’s budget, as well as the most complex component, is salary and benefits, the College is reassigning Satoko Prigmore as payroll manager to the new position of Director, Resource Allocation and Reporting, effective January 16, 2018. In addition to supervising the budget office, Ms. Prigmore will also take on projects related financial analysis and reporting to the campus community and outside entities. While her replacement as payroll manager is identified, Ms. Prigmore will continue to support the College’s payroll function.

Ms. Prigmore holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from City University and an associate’s degree in accounting from Seattle Central College. Prior to becoming payroll manager, she worked for the College as a Fiscal Analyst 3 and in other accounting positions.

Mr. Trippel said, “I’m delighted that Satoko is willing to take on this role. The knowledge and experience that she has gained from serving as our payroll manager will be particularly important to her work in the new position. I greatly value Satoko’s precision, problem-solving skills, and her ability to communicate complex information.”

Questions can be directed to Stuart Trippel on extension 4672 or at strippel@shoreline.edu.

Winter 2018 enrollment deadline

Students may add classes through the first full week of the quarter only. The final date for students to enroll for winter 2018 either in person or online is Friday, January 12, 2018.* See Important Dates.

Late enrollment may occur in rare and unusual circumstances only. For winter quarter 2018, the late-enrollment deadline is Monday, January 22, 2018. Students wishing to add a class during the second week of the quarter must submit a Petition for Late Enrollment to the instructor of the class they wish to add (not to Enrollment & Financial Aid Services).

Instructors who receive a Petition for Late Enrollment should indicate on the form whether they approve or deny the petition, and whether the student has been attending class. Instructors who approve a late enrollment should provide a written plan for student success on the petition form, sign the form, and submit it to their deans for a final decision. If approved, the dean will forward the petition to Enrollment & Financial Aid Services, who will register the student and notify the student, instructor, and dean.

*Exceptions:
With instructor approval, exceptions to the late enrollment deadline include re-enrollment in classes that have been dropped for non-payment, changing to a different section of the same course with the same instructor, changing levels of ESL when the change is initiated by the instructor, state employee and senior citizentuition waivers, and enrollment into late-starting and continuous-enrollment courses.

aSAP proposals for 2018-19 are due Feb. 2, 2018

aSAPs for the 2018-19 budget process are due Feb. 2, 2018.

Your project should go through the aSAP process if:

1. Your request is for permanent classified or exempt positions. You need to go through the aSAP process, even if the work being done is operational. (Note: Decisions about faculty positions are made through a separate process. Please contact your unit administrator with questions about new faculty positions.)

2. Your request is over $50,000. You should go through the aSAP process because this is a substantial investment and the background required by the application process is valuable.

3. Your request is for something that is a change in process or a new idea that will benefit your department and aligns with the goals and objectives of the strategic plan.

If you need assistance developing this year’s aSAP proposal, consider attending one of the live training dates below (as noted on the Employee Calendar):
