Gary Georger will be presenting an educational workshop to share his life experiences as a studio artist. His presentation intends to give insight to those interested in pursuing ceramics as a career and to those generally interested in clay. A slide presentation of his life experiences, influences, and travels will be followed by demonstrations of wheel throwing techniques as he throws “a day in the life” at the wheel.

This event is open to all staff, faculty, and students and no rsvp is needed.

The GAC presents a talk with Shoreline alumni – THE WORLD: A Discussion of “Ah-ha” Moments, Thurs., Feb. 23

Join us Thurs., Feb. 23 from 12:30-1:30 p.m. in the PUB 9208 to hear from former Shoreline students who’ve gone on to study at the UW’s Jackson School of International Studies.

Featuring:
• Alexis Chouery (SCC 2012; JSIS 2015)
• Simon Walker (SCC 2012; JSIS 2015)
• Ian Waller (SCC 2014; JSIS 2016)

Every year about one-third of Shoreline Community College graduates go on to four-year institutions such as the University of Washington where they complete their undergraduate degree, then on to international work in places that include Seattle, Olympia, Washington, D.C., and elsewhere in the world. We invited some of them to return to the Shoreline campus and to share with us their stories about education, careers, and some “ah-ha” moments they experienced along the way.

Additional support provided by the Center for Global Studies, Henry M. Jackson School of International Studies, UW, and individual contributions.

This performance marks the west coast premiere of Amy Beach’s Cabildo! Amy Beach, arguably America’s most famous and celebrated female composer, composed her only opera in 1932. Never published, the work was not performed during the composer’s lifetime, and has only had a handful of performances since 1946. Shoreline’s production will be the west coast premiere of this miniature masterpiece. Set in late nineteenth century New Orleans, Cabildo tells the mysterious story of the notorious pirate, Pierre Lafitte (sung by Trevor Eaden) and his lover, Lady Valerie (sung by Alexandra Picard). The story is set in the governor’s palace and jail of the Cabildo, and features a cast of singers, chorus, and narrator accompanied by a piano trio.opera-workshop
