Shoreline Community College Seeks Additional Emergency Building Monitors!

Building Evacuation Monitors (BEMs) are Shoreline Community College (SCC) employees who volunteer to assist the SCC Incident Commander and Campus Security in the event of a campus emergency. Building Monitors help to evacuate a building or influence employees and students to stay in place during a wide range of emergency situations. Currently, there are 31 BEMs for the campus and coverage is needed for additional locations. We have a sensational group of employees that are willing to assist to help keep the campus safe when most needed.

In order to perform the duties, BEMs must have the following abilities:

  • Fluent in English, able to write and speak clearly over a hand-held radio.
  • Knowledgeable with the College’s Emergency Response Plan
  • Able to maintain effective communication and problem-solving skills during emergencies of any type.
  • Familiar with the campus, its buildings and evacuation assembly areas
  • Able to attend occasional trainings and participate in drills. Supervisory approval is required for participation.
  • Physically capable of expeditiously using internal and external stairs and traversing the campus’ outdoor environment.
  • Able to operate small equipment such as a fire extinguisher, flashlight, hand-held radio.

First-level training for new Building Evacuation Monitors will be conducted on Tuesday, August 2, 2016 from 10:00-11:30am in Room 9201, 9000 Building. Sign up now and spread the word! Auditions for “Urinetown: The Musical” are August 10-12

“Urinetown: The Musical,” a Shoreline Community College production, will be performed October 7, 8, 9, 14, 15, and 16. Charles Enlow will be the producer and musical director.

Auditions will be held on August 10, 11, and 12 between 6:30-9:30 p.m. with callbacks being held Friday, August 12 from 7:30-9:30 p.m.

Come prepared to perform a short musical theater excerpt that shows your skills as a singer, as well as a short (1 minute) monologue. Please, audition not to exceed 3 minutes.

TO SIGN UP FOR AN AUDITION, please go to the auditions page and sign up for a five-minute slot. You will receive a confirmation email confirming your audition time.

We are also looking for students who are interested in tech work to assist in the production.
Students can get musical theater performance credits, drama credits, or stage technical credits. Auditions are open to the community, but everyone involved in the production must register for some type of Shoreline Community College course.

Call for pet participants in the Trash Fashion Show at NW SolarFest this Sat., July 23

Welcome to the Trash Fashion Show, Gone to the Dogs, where our furry best friends model the latest in recycled fashion!

Working with a local shop, Precious Paws, and others in the pet industry, The Trash Fashion Show will take place at NW SolarFest on Sat., July 23 at Shoreline Community College.

If you and your pooch want to participate, then deck your furry friend out in a costume of your own design made from recycled materials and check in at the Precious Paws booth at SolarFest (next to the Main Stage) by 1:30 p.m. The show starts at 2 p.m.

Faculty and staff invited to “Open Hours” with Dr. Alison Stevens, EVP for Academic & Student Affairs

Dr. Alison Stevens, Executive Vice President for Academic & Student Affairs, invites Shoreline Community College faculty and staff members to “Open Hours”. These will be held at a variety of locations across campus and are scheduled throughout the year, typically on Mondays and Thursdays every first or second week of the month. The schedule with Dr. Stevens’ open hours can be found here. Hours are drop-in, and no appointment is needed.
