Staffing updates from Workforce

Please note the following staffing updates from the Workforce Education office. After the retirement of Kim Cambern in September, Jenna Durney has accepted the role of interim Opportunity Grant specialist, while continuing to work with internal Workforce student communication. Please welcome Inez Olive (iolive@shoreline.edu) as the new Outreach Recruiter for Adult Learners, primarily focused on engaging Workforce partners and recruiting adult students across the college. Inez brings similar work experience from Edmonds Community College and local partner agencies. This role will support the ongoing recruiting efforts among Workforce Education, Communications & Marketing, and the Recruiters Roundtable teams.

Derek Jorgenson: Instructional Designer in eLearning Services

derek.jpgWe welcome Derek Jorgenson as an Instructional Designer in eLearning Services, located in the 1200 building. Derek arrived in Washington from Fargo, ND via Pennsylvania. He has worked in higher education for more than fifteen years, including faculty positions, information literacy instruction and library management, and as an instructional designer.

Welcoming Lucy Casale, Acting Dean for Access and Advising

Dear Colleagues,

I would like to take the time to update you on some exciting news in our division. Lucy Casale, Acting Dean for Access and Advising, started at Shoreline on October 17th. Lucy supervises staff in Advising, Enrollment Services and Financial Aid, Honors, CEO and Learning Center North.

This staffing change included the appointment of a Faculty Program Coordinator to assist in Advising. Audrey Reuter, a current member of the Shoreline Advising Faculty, has accepted the leadership role of Faculty Program Coordinator for the 2019-20 school year.

Lucy’s Bio:

Lucy Casale served as the Sr. Associate Director of Washington MESA.  As part of a statewide organization that serves K-12 and community college students, her role was dedicated to increasing access and success for students who are historically underrepresented, serving 3,000 pre-college and 1,000 community college students.  She has extensive supervision and budget management experience, managing $3 million dollars of grant funding for the SBCTC.  Previously, as the Director of Community College Programs with the University of California’s Community College Chancellor’s office, she was responsible for growing the community college program from 10 campuses to 35 campuses.

Lucy shared, “My passion has always been to support underrepresented students.  I was the project director for the Bilingual Teacher Prep Project at Modesto Jr. College, serving primarily Spanish, Portuguese and Southeast Asian language teacher pre-professionals.  For the past 25+ years, I have worked for MESA, providing academic and other support services.”  Lucy worked as an Advisor for 6 years and holds a Masters degree in Ethnic Studies from SFSU and a BA in Sociology from UCSB with an emphasis in Black Studies.
