Sironka Show Poster-web.jpeg
Nicholas Sironka, a former Fulbright scholar, was born in Narok, in the Rift Valley province of Kenya.

Sironka teaches the techniques and history of Batik art, along with an understanding of traditional Maasai culture.

Through his artwork, Sironka is preserving the wisdom and the knowledge of Maasai traditions.

Although Batik is not of African origin, its roots as an indigenous fabric art are closely aligned with the spirit of simplicity and unity that Sironka is sharing with the world.

As a Maasai, Sironka is determined to portray his people’s culture truthfully, with dignity and beauty.

A message from President Roberts regarding Title IX training

Dear Colleague,

Each of us are required to report any Title IX issues we are aware of to our Title IX Coordinator at TitleIXCoordinator@shoreline.edu. Title IX is a landmark federal civil right that prohibits sex discrimination in education. It is not just about sports; it is a prohibition against sex-based discrimination including sexual harassment, gender-based discrimination, and sexual violence. Title IX does not only apply to female students, it protects any person from sex-based discrimination, regardless of their real or perceived sex, gender identity, and/or gender expression. All students and employees are protected from any sex-based discrimination, harassment or violence.

To help create a safer campus environment for all students and employees, and to assist you in knowing your reporting responsibilities, I am sending you an email on September 15 that contains a link to important training about Title IX. The training covers topics that are prevalent on college campuses today regarding sexual assault and sexual violence our students may experience during their college journey. Research has shown sexual assault may occur early in a college student’s experience. The training also covers the student’s rights and our reporting responsibilities.

This on-line training is provided by LawRoom and will take approximately 90 minutes to complete. There will be a printable certificate after completion of the training. In order to be the best advocates for our students on this very important and sensitive issue in their lives, I encourage you to display this certificate in your work area so students know you have had the training and are able to assist them if needed.

As a college community committed to creating a healthy learning environment, I know you will join me in completing this very important Title IX training as soon as possible. Please watch for this email from me on September 15 with the link to take this training.

Respectfully,
Cheryl

A message from President Roberts in remembrance of 9/11

Dear Colleague,

Sunday marks the 15th anniversary of September 11th when close to 3,000 innocent souls fell victim to the worst and most senseless acts of terrorism against our nation. As we observe this Day of Remembrance, let us honor the memory of the victims and hold close, continued healing for their families and friends.

Let us also reflect upon the many acts of courage and compassion that occurred during and following this national tragedy. There will be graphic depictions on all forms of media of our World Trade Center and Pentagon under attack throughout the day, so please do take care of yourself and your family and friends as we solemnly observe the anniversary of this tragedy together.

In remembrance,

Cheryl
