Help Make a Commencement Video for Our Grads: Submit a Clip by May 28

Hello!

As we near closer to Commencement on June 19, the Commencement Committee will send out several invitations to you to participate in different aspects of either our virtual ceremony or drive-thru celebration.

Today’s invitation is to either record a brief (30 seconds or less) video to graduates or encourage a fellow faculty/staff member to do so. These messages can include words of wisdom, advice, or well-wishing. Our fantastic Rob Berg will then compile your submissions into a short and sweet video featured in our virtual ceremony. (If you’d like a frame of reference or some inspiration, we encourage you to view this message to students which was crafted last May.)

If this sounds right up your alley, please read the following instructions carefully, and submit your video by Friday, May 28th

  • Using your phone or laptop, record your brief message to students. Frame your face so there is what appears to be 1” of space between the top of your head and the border of the frame. Face your light source, so that you are brighter than your background. Please take steps to reduce background noise. Don’t worry about editing out flubs or restarts, Rob can do that quickly.

Please submit all videos via DropBox (note: an earlier version of this email included a different method of submission. Please disregard that). You can email me at amitu@shoreline.edu with any questions. We appreciate you and your enduring support of all students on our campus!

Warmly,

Alexander Mitu

Student AFA Graduation Virtual Exhibition

The current graduates of Shoreline’s Fine Arts program exhibit the finest samples of their work in painting, drawing, design, ceramics, photography, and sculpture. The Shoreline Community College Art Gallery is proud to present this group exhibition of up-and-coming artists to the greater Seattle arts community.

View the virtual exhibit.

The artwork in this virtual exhibition represents the culmination of two years of hard work and creativity. It is inspiring to see the quality and integrity of their work and to know that our students have developed conceptual and technical skills that will help them realize their goals.

Many of the students represented in this show have completed the requirements for an Associate of Fine Arts degree, a two-year program of study and creative development in the visual arts. Shoreline has two AFA degree tracks, one in Studio Arts and one in Photography.

We wish our students all the best in the next chapter of their journey and hope you enjoy seeing their most recent scholarly and artistic accomplishments.

Day of Learning Follow-Up: Survey and Session Archives

Shoreline Staff and Faculty,

Thank you to all those who attended and participated in today’s Day of Learning! We hope that the discussions and sessions you engaged in will help spark or further the DEI work that is needed here at Shoreline and in our community. We are also interested in hearing from you and improving the Day of Learning for next year, so please fill out our DOL Feedback Survey.

Although sessions were not recorded, we do have presentations and other session materials available on our SharePoint Session Archive page. Please feel free to access session materials there for those you attended or wanted to attend.

I want to give a special thanks to all of our presenters, room monitors, the DEI Learning Team, and all of the Shoreline employees that helped us set up and navigate the day. It has been an honor to work alongside them.

Thank you everyone for attending and continuing this work in your daily lives!

Important Reminders for Day of Learning on Friday

Dear Colleague,

Our Day of Learning (DOL) is this week! We are eagerly anticipating seeing everyone on Friday as we gather virtually for a full day of learning, growth, reflection, and community. Here are some reminders as we prepare for this day:

Sign Up for Morning & Afternoon Sessions

As a reminder, if you have not done so already, please sign up for one morning session and one afternoon session before Friday:

  • Visit the DOL SharePoint site to view the schedule and review the “Day of Learning Sessions” section at the bottom of the page.
  • Click on the morning session you wish to attend; click on the “Reserve a seat for this session” link, choose a session time, enter your name and email address, then click the “Book” button
  • Return to the SharePoint site and click on the afternoon session you wish to attend; click on the “Reserve a seat for this session” link, choose a session time, enter your name and email address, then click the “Book” button.
  • You will receive a confirmation email for each session with the Zoom link (each email will also contain an attachment that will add the event to your Outlook calendar).

Reflection Sessions

After the morning and afternoon sessions, there will be a short break followed by a 30-minute reflection session to talk, decompress, discuss, and reflect on the information covered in the main session. We strongly encourage you to participate in these reflections to enhance the richness of each session. After each main session concludes, please remain in the Zoom room or use the same Zoom link to return to the room after a break.

You can bookmark the DOL Intranet page to easily find all of the information and resources as we prepare for this day. Looking forward to sharing space with everyone to build community, grow, and adapt!

Thank you,
