New News blog launched for the College

Today PIO launched a news blog, accessible from any news link on the college homepage or by typing news.shoreline.edu into your browser’s address bar (similar to daag.shoreline.edu).

This continues a PIO trend of using WordPress to deliver enhanced website functionality. Other Shoreline WordPress sites include:

We hope the news blog will serve you and the community well.

Please note: the comments function on the news blog is intentionally left on to promote discussion and community engagement.  Should you elect to comment on a news story, please bear in mind that your words and tone will be representing both yourself, and the college, on the worldwide web.  Comments will be moderated by PIO.

BETA Launch of the New DAAG

Welcome to the BETA version of the new Day at a Glance. Here at the top of the page, you’ll find the latest announcement, current events and/or deadlines.

The menu just above this column is designed to help faculty and staff engage with, and stay abreast of, the latest discussion and developments related to major strategic initiatives of the college.

At the very top of this page, you’ll find additional menu options for the most viewed pages on the intranet as well as other useful links.

Please offer feedback by commenting on this post. Any and all constructive criticism (or praise) will be appreciated.

Please note: the comments function on this post and others is intentionally left on to promote discussion and ease of communication among faculty and staff. While this site will be visited almost exclusively by Shoreline employees, it is still a public webpage on the internet and is discoverable by search engines. This is not a private space. Therefore, please bear that in mind as you engage in discussion. Your words and tone will be representing both yourself, and the college, on the worldwide web.

Announcing your events

If you submit an event to the college calendar, chances are PIO will try to convert that into a Facebook event too. This is one way that we try to magnify the reach and participation for campus events.

Look at Joyce Fagel’s UW Transfer Information Session as an example.

It’s on the calendar and in the calendar post there’s a link to Facebook where the sessions are all posted as Facebook events so students can RSVP and/or share the event with their Facebook friends.  Even further, we put it out via the college’s Twitter account.

After all that, if you email people about your event, you can include links to any of those items; the Facebook event, the calendar permalink etc.  This way, your email won’t be isolated. Instead, it will consolidate (and propagate) all the communication streams and entry points for your one great event!
