The All-Hazards Training is an excellent overview of what faculty and staff should be prepared for in various emergency situations. The training is 90 minutes long.

This important training is mandatory for all faculty and staff.

Faculty members are not expected to attend trainings that occur outside of the contractual academic calendar. Associate faculty members who attend mandatory training and submit a completed time-sheet to the VPASA’s office will be paid for that time at the contractual rate for non-instructional work, $39 per hour.

There is nothing more important to this effort than a well-trained staff.  Preparation, training and readiness can make all the difference should the college ever be faced with a critical emergency.

Fire Alarm Testing

During the week of Aug 25-29, Simplex Grinnell will be on campus testing the fireFire Alarm alarm system campus-wide.

On occasion, an alarm or siren may briefly ring. The brief interruptions will not necessitate a building evacuation.

However, if the alarm continues to ring, please take it seriously and evacuate your building.

The 9000 Building (PUB) will have testing which creates an alarm throughout the building. The 9000 Bldg will be done on Thursday during the window of 11:30 – 2 p.m.  The alarm will ring 2-3 times but silenced as quickly as possible.

We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you in advance for your cooperation with this important and required testing process.

Police arrest man on campus

Shoreline Police arrested a 33-year-old man on the campus of Shoreline Community College Tuesday afternoon, June 10, 2014.

According to campus security personnel, the man approached a smoking shelter on the west side of campus, confronted several people in the shelter and brandished a knife. Witnesses said they didn’t know the man who is not registered as a student at the college.

The man left the smoking shelter and began walking east along an on-campus roadway. A campus security officer on regular patrol in a security vehicle was flagged down by those in the shelter who then reported the incident. The officer in the vehicle and two more security officers on foot who were called to assist, contacted the man at a second smoking shelter near the main entrance to the campus. Concerned by his behavior and the earlier report, the security officers handcuffed the man and called 911.

Within minutes, Shoreline Police responded with multiple officers. Police questioned the man and witnesses, then arrested the man and took him to King County Jail on suspicion of making threats, assault or attempted assault.
