Remote Operations Beginning Weds 9/21 thru Thurs 9/22

Dear Campus Community,

Your safety and comfort are important to us. ET has continued to closely monitor conditions on campus today with regard to air quality as a result of the wildfire smoke in the area. Out of an abundance of caution, the College will move to remote operations beginning today (Weds 9/21) at 3:30pm PST through tomorrow, end of day (Thurs 9/22).

This means that the physical campus is closed but all campus services will be available online/remotely. We are disappointed that we can’t be together in person for our Opening Week to kick off our fall quarter, but we are confident this is the best option for our campus community over the next few days.

Here is how the next few days will look:

Wednesday, September 21st (today)

  • All campus services will remain open and offered remotely through regular business hours.
  • Service units are responsible for posting signage/online messaging regarding access to remote services today before you leave.
  • Signage should be posted with QR code or link to a zoom room All service units should continue to offer services online through zoom sessions, etc for one-on-one video support in lieu of face-to-face assistance.

Thursday, September 22nd (tomorrow)

  • All campus services will remain open and offered remotely between 8am – 9am, and 11:30am – 5pm.
  • Campus services will be closed 9am – 11:30am for opening week convocation activities.
  • Opening week activities for Thursday, September 22 will be offered remotely for all attendees.

Update on 5000 Building Roof Project

College community,

In response to the questions you have sent to me and to Kim Clark, Director of Facilities and Capital Projects, about the 5000 building roof repair work, I would like to share the following additional information about the project’s timeline.

  • As indicated in the attached map, contractors began work on the southeast corner of the building.  For the remainder of this week, the contractor will be focusing on the south end.  Adhesive work will take place from 9:00 a.m. – Noon today (September 21).  On Thursday and Friday of this week, the contractor will be using a torch to complete work on the south side.  Maintenance will be closing the air dampers to prevent the outside air from coming come into the building since there will be a strong smell from the torch work.  This odor is not toxic but does have a strong aroma.
  • From September 26 – 30, the contractors will be working on the west end of the building and then moving to the middle of the north side of the building.   Adhesive work will be done each day from 9:00 a.m. – Noon.  On September 29 and 30, the contractor will be completing the final part of these sections with a torch.  We will close the dampers again on those two days.
  • From October 3 – 7, the contract will be finishing up the north end of the building and the west side.  Adhesive work will be done each day from 9:00 a.m. – Noon.  On October 6 and 7, the contractor will be completing the final part of these sections with a torch.  We will close the dampers again on those two days.

Facilities Director Kim Clark will continue to go through the 5000 building each day to verify the areas with odor related to the roofing project and to check in with occupants.  You can also send questions and concerns directly to me or Kim.

The 5000 roof project, like others locally and across the country, has been impacted by delays in the supply chain.  We know this is an extremely busy time of year at the college and appreciate your patience and understanding.

Thank you.

  2. Utilize fans to help circulate clean air inside.
  3. When possible limit or avoid time outdoors until the air quality improves.

Please note that employees sensitive to air quality may request to use leave (sick, vacation, etc) as needed. As a reference, you can review current information on air quality index anytime online at https://www.airnow.gov/.
