Campus Updates 11/27/24

Events and News

Good afternoon! It’s a short week this week due to the holiday and due to the storm as well— I hope everyone has electricity by now!!  At the end of last week, we had the presidents WACTC meeting, and this week the Foundation directors meeting. I am mostly catching up from a mountain of email.  No major community events/connections to report.

Speaking of community- Cat and Damon and the team put together a new webpage called “Community”.  The idea is to direct folks to come to campus and enjoy all we have to offer in a one-stop-shop place.

I want to share it here in case you have ideas of things to add etc. We would also love to help promote it with our community partners so please let us know any ideas!

It’s under “about” on the main page

https://www.shoreline.edu/about-shoreline/community.aspx

I also wanted to wish all a great Thanksgiving holiday whether with family or doing a “Friendsgiving” I hope you all have a pleasant and restful break.

Cheers,

Jack

The SCC Foundation scholarship application is being revamped! We will be rolling out the new application in late December/early January. The biggest change to application will be around financial reporting to more accurately identify students with need. We have been talking with folks in Financial Aid, Transitional Studies, International Ed, and other departments and getting good feedback. If you have thoughts, please share with me (wcoates@shoreline.edu).

We are so excited to announce the Taisa Welhasch has accepted the position of Annual Fund and Stewardship Manager at the Foundation! Taisa has been working as a temp in our office for several months – we are thrilled she’s official! Please stop by and meet her! Gale tells the story of seventeen-year-old Gale Winters, who, after losing her home in Iowa due to a derecho (a severe massive windstorm), is sent to live with her 2 married aunts near Seattle, while her parents stay behind to rebuild. Now Gale must navigate a new school in her senior year, contend with a group of mean girls (cheerleaders), and come to terms with the fact that her beloved dog, Stormy has gone missing. All while dealing with the trauma of losing her home to a massive climate event. In this modern reimagining of The Wizard of Oz, it is a story filled with both humor and a deeper message about loss, friendship, the devastating effects of climate change, and the true meaning of home.
