EVENTS AND NEWS

ctcLink Weekly Updates

This week marked a major milestone for the ctcLink Project at Shoreline. Subject Matter Experts from across campus participated in a live practice session on Tuesday, December 7th to simulate the activities we will be doing over Go-Live weekend prior to our launch on February 28th, 2022. The day was a success as we gained valuable experience and learned lessons we will carry forward over the coming months. We are thankful for the hard work and dedication of all those who have been working on the project and their colleagues who have been supportive of their efforts.

HSAMCC Construction Activity

Last week, concrete structural foundation footing work began for the new Health Sciences and Advanced Manufacturing Classroom Center (HSAMCC).  This work will include an increased amount of concrete and delivery activity on campus during normal construction hours through January 2022.  Please be mindful to navigate around this work safely.

Email from Rave- Error

There was an error in the “from” email address in a RAVE email notifying the campus of technical difficulties with Canvas this week. The “from” address was listed as the previous president and has since been updated and the error resolved. Thank you to those that notified us of this.

Lost Girl is available for viewing on YouTube

Come support our students and enjoy an evening of fabulous entertainment from the stage of our campus theater into the heart of your homes!   This weekend only, the Shoreline Community College theater department bring you their live stream performance of “Lost Girl”, by Kimberly Belflower.   For those that missed our live stage performances, this is your chance to see our college’s students shine through the dark veil we have all been under for almost 2 years.   And for those that did attend, here is a chance to relive the magic once again. And it’s free!
Long after returning from Neverland, Wendy decides that she must find Peter in order to reclaim her kiss and move on with her life. Along the way, she meets other girls who went to Neverland and learns she is not alone. A coming-of-age exploration of first love and lasting loss, Lost Girl continues the story of J.M. Barrie’s beloved character – the girl who had to grow up.
Gather up the gang, grab a bowl of popcorn and your favorite beverage, then sit down and enjoy an evening of entertainment through this coming of age story about the beloved characters from Peter Pan.  (Recommended for kids 12 and over)

Campus Updates- All Staff (11/19/21)

Hi Campus Community,

Here are this week’s updates. We wish you a warm holiday season of togetherness over the coming days!

RETURN TO CAMPUS/COVID-19

  • REMINDER: beginning winter quarter 2022, all classified staff will be required to work on-campus a minimum of 3 days per week (joining admin/exempt staff). Please work with your supervisor to finalize your schedule by November 19, 2021.  The only exception to the requirement would be a medical exemption and exemption requests should have been submitted to and in process with Human Resources: hr@shoreline.edu.
  • Student Attestation:  New in-person or on-campus students attending winter quarter 2022 need to complete the COVID-19 vaccination attestation form by January 20, 2022 (10th day of the quarter) to avoid getting a hold put on their registration account.
  • Disinfecting wipes and dispensers are being distributed to computer and piano labs so users can clean keyboards (not computer screens), as they would like.  In addition, employees are welcome to request wipes be distributed to their individual offices by submitting a Facilities work order. This effort is in response to requests, but also remember that per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the risk of getting infected by COVID-19 from contact with surfaces or objects is generally considered to below.
  • Vaccine Clinic
    • The next weekend clinic will be on December 4th and 5th in the Main Dining Room (MDR) in the PUB/9000 building for children ages 5-11 to distribute the second dose of the Pfizer vaccine for this age group.  Make a follow-up appointment here. Expect thousands of people on campus that weekend so there will be no walk-ins.
  • The clinic will close on December 17, 2021, in order to move to the Quiet Dining Room (QDR)/room 9208 and then will reopen on January 4, 2022.  It will stay open throughout the winter quarter M-F 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and will continue to offer COVID-19 vaccinations for ages 5-11, as well as ages 12-adult and booster shots.
  • Please check the COVID-19 Updates site for more details.

EVENTS AND NEWS

Full Campus Water Shutdown

Saturday, December 4th, 7:00 am – 4:00 pm
Due to construction, water service will be shut down across campus. We apologize for any inconvenience.  There will be mobile bathrooms set up on campus for those living in 7000 and others that will be on campus.

cTc Link Weekly Updates

Starting December 1st, ctcLink updates will have a home here in the weekly all-staff update! Notes in this section will not be department-specific, but more of an update on project timelines, developments, and announcements. Thank you ahead of time for reading and staying current on this rollout.

Welcome Steve Hanson, Interim President

Beginning Monday, November 15, 2021, Steve Hanson joined Shoreline Community College in the Interim President position. President Hanson comes to Shoreline with over thirty years of administrative and teaching experience across multiple institutions within the Washington State community and technical college system. President Hanson comes with executive leadership experience at Renton Technical College (President), Spokane Community College (President), and Edmonds Community College (Executive VP – Instruction).

“I am honored to have this opportunity to serve as Shoreline’s interim president. I especially want to express my appreciation for the warm and welcoming reception that I received this Monday when I was able to participate both virtually and in-person with many faculty and staff. I look forward to meeting with faculty, staff, and students over the coming weeks as we work together to ensure the success of our students, our programs, and our campus community.”

Among the many strengths, President Hanson brings to this role is his experience with strategic planning, cultural diversity, budget planning and development, institutional effectiveness/research, workforce education, new program development, capital planning, community relations, grant administration, and distance learning.

REMINDER: 2021 Winter Closure

As we enter the holiday period, this is just a reminder of the upcoming December campus closure in observance of the winter holiday break. The specific dates of the 2021 Winter closure will be Monday, Dec 20th through Friday, Dec 24th, 2021. As you prepare for the 2021 winter closure period, please review the following information:

  • Classified staff should use accrued comp time (or other applicable paid leave) for the four days the College is closed prior to the Friday, December 24th holiday.
    • NOTE: Classified staff may request supervisor approval to work across the closure (excluding the Friday, 12/24/21 holiday) if desired to support ctcLink implementation tasks or to catch up on work impacted by ctcLink assignments.
  • For those approved to work, remember that all non-urgent communications and tasks should wait for campus re-opening on Monday, December 27, 2021.
  • If you have an emergent health condition during the winter closure, you may substitute sick leave for vacation leave on the applicable days.

Strengthening Institutional Programs (SIP) Grant and Starfish Updates

The College recently received two competitive Title III Grants, the SIP and the AANAPISI grants. In order to leverage the synergy and alignment between the SIP grant and College’s Guided Pathways efforts, rather than hiring a separate director for the SIP grant, the director of Guided Pathways, Brigid Nulty, will take on the additional responsibility of overseeing the SIP grant. The day-to-day implementation of the grant will be managed by an Associate Director of the SIP Grant, reporting directly to Director Nulty. The Associate Director position will be fully funded by the SIP grant. Moriah Shistle, the temporary Business Analyst managing the Starfish implementation, was identified as an ideal candidate for the Associate Director position based on her skillset and familiarity with the College and its operations.

An open hiring process will be conducted this fall for a new Business Analyst, and the role will be funded by the SIP grant moving forward. Until this position is filled, Ms. Shistle will continue to oversee the Starfish project while easing into her Associate Director of SIP duties. We do not anticipate any disruption to the Starfish rollout.

Contract Approval Protocol

Gayla Hocker started as the new Executive Assistant to the VP of Business and Administrative Services on November 17 and will resume management of all contracts and agreements for approval.  As a reminder, the contract review form must be completed and submitted to Gayla prior to obtaining the VP’s signature.  Gayla can be reached at ghocker@shoreline.edu or at 206-546-7859.  Welcome to Shoreline Gayla!

Winter Registration opens for all November 22nd, 2021
