Hello campus community,
Jack has been in Washington D.C. advocating for community colleges and battling snowstorms, so no update from him this week.
I know that Jack, along with Cat Chiappa and Trustee Rebecca Chan, had a productive week at the Association for Community College Trustees National Legislative Summit, and were able to meet with Senator Murray, Senator Cantwell, and Representative Jayapal, so I’m sure he will have plenty to report when he returns to campus next week.
As we wind down a week of freezing temps here in West-Coast-Washington, may this pic from East-Coast-Washington make you feel just a little bit warmer.

Facilities and Capital Projects
This is a repost of 2/7/25 Campus-wide broadcast email to share this important information. The Roof Replacement projects consist of repairs to building 1000, 2900, 3000, 4000 and 1600. If you experience any discomfort, please don’t hesitate to contact your supervisor and/or Human Resources to discuss assistance or accommodations. The schedule is as follows.
- 2/10/25 – 2/17/25
- 1000 Building Cupolas – Contractor will be removing and replacing cupolas on roof. There will be minimal noise and vibration. No impact to the art in the art gallery. There is a chance of a slight chemical smell when they install the new Cupolas. SDS is attached.
- 2/18/25 – 2/28/25
- 2900 roof gravel replacement and perimeter work – Contractor will remove roof gravel, repair roof, and replace gravel. There will be a slight vibration over walkways with little to no impact within the building. There will be slight noise and chemical smell. Parking on the east side of building (close to wall) will be taken offline while gravel is removed. SDS is attached.
- 3/3/25 – 3/14/25
- 3000 soffit stain work – Contractor will be using a lift and scaffold to apply a stain to the soffit around the building. They will start on the east side of 3000. No vehicles can be parked in the parking stalls on the east side of 3000 when they start to apply the stain. It will take them 1-2 days to complete the work on the NE side of 3000. SDS is attached.
- 3/17/25 – 3/28/25
- 4000 skylight replacement – Contractor will remove existing skylight and replace with new. There will be noise and chemical smells during this project. To minimize the impact of dust/sawdust falling within the library, a section inside the 2nd floor will be closed off during the project. SDS is attached.
- 3/31/25 – 4/4/25
- 1600 PMMA and drain replacement – Contractor will be replacing the roof drainage system. This will require interior and exterior work. There will be slight noise and chemical smell. SDS is attached.
The contractor will do their best to minimize noise during this roof project. Facilities will do their best to minimize any impact to the buildings while chemicals are being used. This schedule could change slightly since much of this work is weather dependent. We’ll be working with building occupants if any changes occur. Feel free to reach out to Facilities if you have any questions.
Technology Support Services (TSS)
Windows 11 Upgrade:
In line with Microsoft’s best practices and maintenance plan, we will be upgrading all remaining computers currently using Windows 10 to Windows 11 in the coming weeks. As a reminder, Windows 10 will reach end of support on October 14, 2025. This upgrade will introduce a fresh look and feel to your operating system, along with enhanced features and improved performance. While the transition should be smooth and similar to a regular system update, you may notice some changes in the interface. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this update process. If you have any questions or need assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out via ticket at support.shoreline.edu.
New SMS Texting Feature Now Available in Microsoft Teams:
TSS is excited to announce that the new SMS (texting) feature is now available in Microsoft Teams! This solution is designed for immediate 1-to-1 two-way texting for Shoreline business purposes only. Here are some key details:
Feature Overview:
· Send and receive text messages directly within Microsoft Teams using your Shoreline telephone number.
· Integrated conversations ensure a unified experience across chat and SMS.
· Group messages are supported, though each message counts as an individual text.
· Currently supports domestic texting only (no international texting).
Eligibility and Cost:
· Available exclusively to Shoreline users with the purchase of an additional license.
· Cost: Approximately $14 per user per month (plus any potential overages).
· Charges will be billed to the user’s department budget.
· Licenses are assigned by Supervisor request with approval from the corresponding budget owner.
· Each use case is evaluated and approved by the TSS department.
Text Limit:
· Each user license includes 500 SMS messages per month (pooled across all organization licenses) with a maximum limit of 1000 messages per month. This avoids the FCC requirement for operational texting and the need to register a college-wide general phone number.

Once you’ve read the guidance, you (or your supervisor) can fill out the Teams Texting (SMS) Request Form.
Network Rewiring and Hardwiring Connection Project Update:
Below is the updated building list of the rewired and hardwired network connections that have been restored and those in progress with expected completion dates. As mentioned at the beginning of this project, most of the building wiring has not been updated for over a decade or more (emphasis on more). During this project, we have already encountered several major issues in the buildings as we run new cabling and test the integrity of previous network connections. We continue to utilize our third-party vendor (Milne) and expect to be fully completed in early 2025.

Parent Child Center
On Friday, February 28th from 3:00pm to 4:00pm, at the PCC Resource Fair, we will be learning about Effective Parenting Tips around communication, building structure, giving directions, discipline and consequences etc. It will be held in the Front Lobby of the PCC.
