This will be our last campus update of the year, and I wanted to take a moment to share a few reflections.

It has been an incredibly rough year in higher education nationwide, and certainly here at Shoreline. And yet, together we have done meaningful work and helped many students despite the obstacles we have faced. I encourage you to hold on to those moments, especially now, and to reflect on the student stories that remind you why this work matters. I am truly appreciative of your efforts, and for the care and support you have for each other. 

Thank you to everyone who attended yesterday’s community check-in and to those who took the time to ask thoughtful questions. While we weren’t able to address every question during the meeting, it’s important to us that your voices are heard and that you have space to ask questions and receive important updates. Beginning in the new year, we will add an additional community check-in each month as we move through the months ahead. 

We will also continue to update and add FAQs as needed to help ensure everyone can stay informed. If you didn’t have the opportunity to ask your question yesterday, please send it to pio@shoreline.edu and the C&M office will route it to the appropriate person for a response. 

I hope you can all find time over the break to rest, connect with family and friends, and celebrate with the people you love. In that spirit, I’d like to share this year’s Holiday Greetings, created with care by members of our campus community. Thank you, Rob, for bringing us together to create this joyful video. It’s one I look forward to each year. 

As we look ahead, I’m keeping the words and spirit of Dolores Huerta’s hope in my heart for a better and more peaceful year next year.

Intermediate Capital Project Funding Request: 
 
The Facilities and Technology Committee (FATC), College Council, and the Executive Team have recommended and approved that the College apply for a $15 million Intermediate Capital Project Proposal to the SBCTC for renovation/remodeling of the FOSS Building and remove the Comprehensive Student Services New Building Construction from the SBCTC Capital Projects list.  
 
At current Legislative Capital Project Funding Levels, and with the Comprehensive Student Services Building ranked at number 26, it would take at least 15-20 years before we would receive funding to begin the project. The immediate renovation and remodeling needs will support the Students, Faculty, and Staff in FOSS Building. This is another reason we are seeking this funding request. 
 
New Food Truck Scheduling Contractor, WSFTA, Effective Winter Quarter: 
 
To save approximately $10,000 in contracted services fees per year, we are moving to a new food truck scheduling contractor, Washington State Food Truck Association (WSFTA), starting in the Winter Quarter on January 6th.  There is a 90-day period where we cannot utilize WSFTA food truck vendors that also contract with Seattle Food Trucks.  While this impacts a few food truck vendors that contract with both organizations, WSFTA has a broader reach and depth of food truck vendors that will provide food service to the College.  While we transition to the new contractor, we expect some logistical hiccups. Please send feedback to Joe Mazur or Gayla Hocker during this time.

Huge shoutout and THANK YOU to Tsai-En Cheng, Jennifer Perrault, Blake McKee, Allison Armstrong, Esther Lim, Rachel Rawle, Diana Ensenat and Gary Fantozzi, Liz Agapito and Amy Stapleton. These wonderful people spent last weekend hosting more than 500 people visiting our campus in conjunction with the Washington First Lego League Robotics Competition. Because of them, 56 teams of 4-8 graders (and their parents!!) were introduced to our programs, faculty, staff, and campus! Thank you!! Your efforts are appreciated and valued! 

On the evening of January 22, we will be hosting our first ever Alumni Winter Gathering. We are looking forward to welcoming alumni to campus for some social time and networking, followed by a chance to hear from the Alumni Steering Committee and Dr. Kahn. The 26/27 Academic Year Scholarship application window will open soon! Students only need to submit one application in AwardSpring and they will be considered for every scholarship they’re eligible for. An email will go out to students in January, but please take the time to share this information with any students you work with.

Hello all, I hope your finals week is going well.  

For me, this week has been a lot of meetings, working on evaluations of supervisees, and overall planning.  The highlight was last Friday where we were proud to have hosted activist, labor leader, and award winner Dolores Huerta. Her words were so inspirational and passionate, as if she was talking to each one of us individually in a room full of 300. 

I want to thank our stellar VP of DEI Brian Ramos for organizing the event and for including our wonderful mayor, Christopher Roberts; the consul of Mexico for Seattle, Víctor Hugo López Ortega; and the Se Habla Media team – Jaime Mendez and Diana Oliveros Martinez – for their great interview skills. 

Finally, a HUGE thank you to the amazing SC team that put this together: Alejandra Salgado, Lizbeth Agapito, Amanda Herrera, Elle Rivera Soto and many others.  It was incredible to see all the local organizations, teachers, community members, and families who attended the event and work every day to support and keep our Latinx/Hispanic communities safe and thriving.  Keep on the lookout for more gatherings and continued support.   
 
Ms. Huerta ended the evening on a hopeful note, telling us that these dark days will pass, and better days are ahead.  Holding on to her hope for all of us. 

Looking forward to the nursing pinning today, which is always hopeful and really well done.

Printing Services will be closed Thursday & Friday, Dec. 18 & 19, and will reopen on Monday, Dec. 29.  Please plan accordingly and contact Greg Jensen via email or phone at (206) 546-4674 if you need assistance with your printing needs.  

Technology Support Services (TSS) 

Student Migration Project Update 

We’d like to share an update regarding the student email migration project. A notification with this information was sent to students on Tuesday, December 9. Preparations to move student email data from Google to Microsoft are now complete. As part of this transition, Microsoft Outlook licenses will be activated for all students on December 15th. 

What does this mean? 

• Starting December 15th, student email will be accessible through Microsoft Outlook (https://www.outlook.com) 

• Students that currently use an @go.shoreline.edu account will continue to have access to both Gmail and Microsoft Outlook until the official go-live date of January 5th, 2026. 

• No mandatory action is required by students at this time. 

Important Reminders: 

• All emails and drive data from current student Gmail accounts will be migrated to their new Microsoft account. 

• On January 5^th, all student accounts will change from student@go.shoreline.edu to student@shoreline.edu. 

• Also on January 5^th, Multifactor Authentication (MFA) will be enabled and required for all accounts. 

Stay Cyber-Safe This Holiday Season 

TSS wishes everyone a Happy Holidays! As we celebrate this season, please remember that cybercriminals often increase their efforts to target colleges like Shoreline with scams. Common tactics include: 

• Gift card scams 

• Spoofed supervisor emails 

• Phony job offers 

• Enticing giveaways 

• Fake technical support emails or calls 

These messages can appear legitimate and may cause serious harm, both personally and institution-wide. Stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately to support@shoreline.edu. 

To help protect our community, Shoreline has implemented advanced automated defense systems that monitor our network and accounts. These systems can take proactive measures, such as locking accounts suspected of compromise to prevent further sign-ins. 

If you experience account access issues or accidentally click on a suspicious link or file, contact TSS right away so we can investigate and resolve the issue promptly.

First WA Lego League Robotics Competition 

• Saturday, December 13 & Sunday, December 14, 8am – 5pm 

• Shoreline Gymnasium, 2900 Building 

Shoreline College’s STEM Division will host two robotics competitions. The First WA FLL Shoreline Qualifiers will be held on December 13 & 14. Throughout the weekend there will be 56 teams of students in grades 4-8 competing, 75 volunteers making it happen, including students from Shorewood High School’s FRC robotics team and over 300 families exploring Shoreline College campus with tours. Students will be presenting to judges in the morning and competing in the afternoon robot game.

You can checkout whether you are in compliance for required trainings by viewing your Dashboard on Vector.  Click HERE for the website. Remember: Your username is your shoreline.edu email.  

Below is the completions for the past 30 days noting that the spike is when the newest Vector Launch occurred. We have 473 courses were completed so far, and 10 courses were completed so far today. Looking good!

• HR Joins Shoreline Support Ticketing System! 

We are pleased to announce that the Human Resources (HR) department will soon be added to the Shoreline Support ticketing system! 

Similar to other departments across campus, HR will now utilize a variety of online forms to streamline requests, improve response times, and enhance the overall employee experience. This integration provides a centralized and transparent process for handling HR related inquiries, ensuring that your requests are tracked and resolved efficiently. 

What does this mean for you? 

• You will be able to submit HR requests for assistance directly through the support site. You can also still email hr@shoreline.edu for help, which will generate a ticket in the HR application. 

• Each request will have a ticket number, status updates, and clear communication, reducing the need for follow-up emails. 

• The system helps HR collaborate with other departments when needed, making cross-functional processes smoother.

Hey folks, I hope all are doing well.  Since our last update, the most significant event I attended was the Giving table.  This year’s Giving Table fundraising event was a huge success!  Washington State Governor Bob Ferguson gave a wonderful, welcoming opening speech, and we were fortunate to have Jessica Strickland and our featured student share our student stories.   Justice Bill from Muckleshoot Indian Tribe ended the event with a beautiful song.  
 
At a time where hope sometimes is hard to attain, we spent time in community reminding ourselves that our students matter, our donors matter, and community college education matters! Kierah Taylor did such a great job representing students and telling her story.  We are so lucky to have these wonderful students.  Once again, the Shoreline Community College Foundation (and our students!) knocked it out of the park!   

The rest of this week I will be at the Association for Community College Trustees (local) conference here in Seattle with three of our Trustees.  Will update about that when I return!

• Friday, 11/21, 7:00-10:30: Virtual International Education Symposium hosted by Lone Star College (email cferguson@shoreline.edu for the link and agenda): This symposium will include a student panel, best practices on study abroad and virtual exchange, and sessions led by pioneering leaders and organizations in internationalization, including the Texas International Education Consortium (TIEC) and CCID.

• Friday, 11/21, 12:00-1:00: WCCCSA Study Abroad Info Session (email cferguson@shoreline.edu for the link): Learn more about quarter-long and short-term study abroad programs offered by the Washington Community College Consortium for Study Abroad (WCCCSA). Scholarships available! Upcoming Programs in 2026: Berlin, Germany; Costa Rica; South Korea; Dublin, Ireland 

Advancement & Foundation 

Thank you to the many folks across campus who attended and/or volunteered at the Giving Table on Friday! We had 296 registered guests and 28 individual and corporate sponsors. We raised nearly $100,000 so far, and I am pretty sure we will hit $100K in the next week or so as folks who couldn’t attend made gifts this week.  

Our special guest speaker was WA State Governor Bob Ferguson. He expressed his appreciation for the donors who help us address our students’ basic needs. Prior to the event, he met with the student speakers for about 20 minutes. It was an educational and meaningful experience for our students.

We’re excited to invite all classified staff to a special training session focused on the WFSE-HE Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA)! This session is designed to help you better understand your rights, benefits, and the resources available to you under the CBA. NOTE: Participation in this training is comp-time eligible under the Winter Closure MOU.
