In-Person Services on Campus for Fall 2021

Dear Shoreline Faculty and Staff,

As we have been communicating with you, we will be a vaccinated campus as of September 7 and are moving forward with a gradual re-opening of services. We are doing this in as thoughtful and deliberative manner as possible taking many factors into consideration, including, but not limited to, student needs, health and safety, state requirements and guidelines, and benchmarking with area colleges. Toward those ends, and as we approach fall quarter, we are adopting a phased approach to resuming in-person services.

Beginning Monday, September 13, the College will resume core in-person services in a limited capacity (General Guidelines: at least 1 classified staff member providing service during campus open hours). The physical campus will be open from 8-5 M-Th, and 8-12 on Friday. Core in-person services will include:

  • Advising
  • Athletics
  • Bookstore
  • Classroom Support Services
  • Counseling
  • Curbside Pick-Up/Drop-Off
  • Enrollment Services and Financial Aid
  • Facilities
  • Financial Services/Cashiers
  • Foundation
  • Human Resources
  • International Education
  • Library
  • Outreach and Recruitment
  • Parent Child Center
  • Printing Services
  • Residential Life
  • Safety and Security
  • Student Accessibility Services
  • Veterans Services
  • Testing and Assessment
  • TSS

Note: While the expectation is that most of the above services will be open to students during College business hours, there may be limited exceptions for smaller units. We will share more details as plans are finalized.

To facilitate this limited in-person re-opening, Admin/Exempt staff are required to work on campus at least 3 days a week beginning September 7, 2021. In addition, as we have previously communicated, 20-25% of fall classes will be offered in a hybrid modality. If there are classified staff or faculty requests to work more regularly on campus (beyond what has already been approved), please discuss those requests with your supervisor who can forward to their ET member for a decision by ET. For any immediate questions regarding a legitimate medical exemption related to the nature of in-person support, please reach out to Human Resources by email at scchr@shoreline.edu

As always, thank you for your flexibility and continued support of students as we aim to find a safe and balanced approach to transitioning core operations back to campus.

Sincerely,

Phillip J. King

Conversion to Vaccinated Required Campus for Fall 2021

Dear Faculty and Staff of Shoreline Community College,

Governor Jay Inslee released a new proclamation with updated COVID-19 guidance for Washington colleges. The full proclamation is available online, it provides two paths forward for colleges: (1) require vaccinations on campus and operate with no social distancing requirements; or (2) have no vaccine requirement and operate under many of the same restrictions that were in place this past year.

Based on this guidance, we have made the decision that, effective September 7, 2021, Shoreline Community College will require students, staff, and faculty to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. However, as there continue to be concerns related to new variants of the virus, and to ensure a safe environment, the College will continue to require that masks be worn at all times while indoors in settings with other people (offices, meetings, classrooms).

By September 7, 2021 employees (regardless of work location) will need to verify that they have been fully vaccinated unless they are claiming a medical, religious, or philosophical (personal) exemption. Students who are taking classes on campus will also need to provide this verification before classes begin in Fall 2021. Please note, students who are enrolled exclusively in online or virtual classes and will not be required to verify their vaccination status. We are currently developing a system that will allow you to submit COVID-19 vaccination verification or exemptions (for staff and students). Watch for more details on this process in the coming weeks.

In tandem with the gradual re-opening of our campuses, the College will continue to offer robust online learning options and virtual services so that all of our students can learn in the environment that works best for them with the support they need, as they pursue their education at Shoreline.

We are hopeful that, by working closely with all employees regarding safe re-opening options, this will allow the College to focus on rebuilding enrollment while ensuring that Shoreline stays at the forefront for education in the Seattle region. Our hope is that being a fully vaccinated campus will be the best and quickest way for us to get back to in-person learning in a way that protects our individual and collective health and safety while maintaining an abundance of caution.

While this message provides a broad overview regarding the vaccination required direction the College will be moving in, in the coming weeks the College will continue to post updated COVID guidance and FAQ’s on the Shoreline Community College website.

Sincerely,

Phillip J. King

Changes to Campus Access Protocols

Dear Faculty and Staff,

As we continue to evaluate our campus COVID-19 protocols, there are two changes that will go into effect on Monday, July 26.

Student Check-In Station Will Close

As of July 26, students enrolled in on-campus courses will no longer be required to go to the check-in station in Building 2900, Room 2910, each day before class. Students (and visitors) must continue to complete the Campus Access Form immediately prior to each campus visit to attest to not having COVID-19 symptoms. Anyone with COVID-19 symptoms is not permitted to come to campus.

Employee Protocol Change for Coming to Campus

As of July 26, employees who wish to come to campus for occasional work will need to follow an updated protocol:

  • Request permission by completing a new Campus Permission Form (www.shoreline.edu/campus_permission) at least three days in advance of the date you wish to be on campus.
  • If the senior leader or Executive Team member for your area approves, you will be notified that you have permission to come to campus on the specified date(s).
  • Submit a Campus Access Form (www.shoreline.edu/checkin) immediately prior to arriving on campus and remember to check out (www.shoreline.edu/checkout) when you depart. You will also receive an email reminder to check out that day.
  • Wear a mask on campus in all indoor spaces and remain three feet away from others.

Please note, employees who have received written permission to regularly work on campus do not need to fill out the Campus Permission Form each time they come to campus.

We will continue to communicate COVID-19-related campus changes to you as they occur and will post them on the main COVID-19 web page and the faculty/staff COVID-19 web page. Thank you for your continued flexibility and understanding.

Sincerely,

Phillip King
