I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for participating in a wonderful Opening Week.  

It has been exciting to see all the activity revving up for Fall quarter. Before you get too immersed into Fall, the Professional Development and Opening Week committees would like to know how your Opening Week went. Please fill out this short anonymous feedback form to let us know how we did.

Opening Week Award Winners 

It has been great to see all of you during the various Opening Week activities.  If you missed it, I would like to take a moment to extend a huge congratulations to our award winners!

Required Annual Trainings Tomorrow 9/26/23 

As part of Opening Week, tomorrow we are offering our required annual trainings both online and in person.  These are mandatory trainings for college employees that must be taken once a year.  While you do not have to take them tomorrow, if you have time in your schedule it is encouraged.  However, they will also be offered at other times throughout the year.  For more information, please visit the Opening Week site, or view the training timeline below.

2023 Opening Week Update- FAQs

Dear Colleagues, 

It is almost time for Opening Week 2023 The Future is Now: Plan, Create, Celebrate!  As we gear up for this year’s kick-off activities, please review the following guidance for your reference: 

1.      What am I required to attend? 

ANSWER: Classified staff, administrators, and full-time faculty are required to attend Thursday’s (9/21) morning events (see below). Full-time faculty are also required to attend Thursday afternoon’s division/dept/area meetings as well. NOTE: Part-time faculty, students, temp/hourly staff, and volunteers are welcome to join (but not required to do so).

2.      Will campus be closed to the public for any portion of the Opening Week activities?  

ANSWER: Yes! To ensure front-line employees have the ability to attend kickoff events, campus will be closed to the public 8am – 1pm Thursday, September 21st. All areas should ensure appropriate signage/communication is in place regarding this planned closure of services, including where inquiries can be directed during the period of closure. 

3.      If I am required to attend Thursday’s events, but am unable to do so (in part or in whole) do I need to report leave for time missed? 

ANSWER: If you are a classified staff member, administrator, or full-time faculty member you will need to submit a request for leave for any time missed at Thursday’s required events. 

4.      Am I required to attend Thursday’s on-campus lunch event? 
ANSWER: Nope, but we would love to you see there!

5.      Who gets to decide which modality employees use to attend opening week events? 

ANSWER: You do! Please feel free to pick the modality which best fits your needs for both required and optional opening week events.  Links for those attending online can be found HERE.   

6.      I have an accommodation need for opening week activities. Who should I work with? 

ANSWER: Please contact HR at hr@shoreline.edu no later than September 14th by 3pm to ensure timely coordination is possible. 

7.      I have other questions not listed above regarding employee time and opening week. Who should I contact? 

ANSWER: Please reach out to us at HR anytime with any additional questions regarding time reporting for opening week.

Mark your calendars now for Shoreline’s 2023 OPENING WEEK activities across September 21st – 26th.   The finalized schedule of activities will be posted online once finalized closer to Fall quarter but please save this bookmark now for your reference.

Opening Week! Tuesday-9/27

Welcome to the last day of Opening Week!

Tuesday 9/27- Event Schedule

  • Check out the  dailysched927.docx or Opening Week 2022 – Centering Students & Creating Community (sharepoint.com) for information on trainings and meetings available today.
  • 11:00 am-1:30 pm: Thai-U-Up food truck in the courtyard. Check-in at a table in the courtyard for a meal ticket sponsored by the foundation. The first 150 meals are free!
  • The opening week planning committee encourages your feedback on these events. 
  • Review campus feedback from the President’s Welcome session on:
    • How should leaders build trust collaboratively?
    • What organizational structures would aid in building trust at the College?
    • How can the College create new opportunities for relationship building?
    • What professional development and training could the College provide to support the work ahead
    • How can the College improve internal communication and transparency?
    • What is missing?
    • Go to the Library, room 4237 (large open area in the front), to review printouts of the feedback. “Like” items by adding a colored dot or by highlighting them; add more ideas by writing on sticky notes (see the attached photos below).
