King County Diversity and Recruitment Workshop

In our continued partnership with Shoreline Fire, the King County Fire Chiefs Association is holding a King County Diversity and Recruitment Workshop at Shoreline Community College. The event is free to attend and open to all, whether you’re absolutely interested in the Fire service or if you just wanted to learn more about a career in the Fire service.

Filming on Campus Tomorrow 11/7/23- Some Parking Impacted

Dear Campus Community,

The Shoreline CC Rentals and Film Department are working with a local film production company to film a national commercial on campus tomorrow Tuesday November 7th. Load in is at 5 am.. to the library #4000 building with the shoot scheduled from 7 a.m. – 12 noon. The second part of the shoot will be in the theater lobby and stage between 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.  #1500 Building (#1515, #1524 and a couple of offices will be used all day. The film team will not be too disruptive but there will be a of gear moving in and out of the #1600 and #4000 building during the transition times.

Tomorrow, Tuesday, 11/7/23, portions of the parking lot west of Building 1600 (theater) will be closed. Additionally, the vehicle accessway between Buildings 1700 and 1800 will be closed to vehicle traffic until approximately 12:00pm (noon). Foot traffic on this route will still be possible as will access to the permit purchase station, motorcycle parking, ADA Parking, and electric vehicle charging stations west of Building 1600.

Self Defense 101 Workshop

In this class participants will learn techniques for maintaining their stance and footing, escaping from several different grabs, and working as a team with their friends and allies. We will be doing physical drills and practicing movements to help maintain and regain physical autonomy, as well as running through verbal and non-verbal communication strategies to make ourselves and those around us safer and more capable in self-defense situations.

Kiyoshi is a martial artist of 19 years with a passion for bringing effective self defense to diverse communities. Kiyoshi has trained extensively in both armed and unarmed styles such as Capoeira, Kali/Eskrima, Wing Chun Kung Fu, Tae Kwon Do, and anything else they could get their hands on. Kiyoshi loves bringing the empowerment of self-defense to everyone who needs it.

Charlie has been teaching deescalation and principles of combat arts since 2021. In approaching this work, he centers consent, joy, and trust-building. He is constantly learning from the people he teaches, and realizes that “defense” is incredibly subjective and contextual. Each of you has survived so much already, and only you know what will work for you! As an instructor, Charlie hopes to give you tools to hone your survival skills, build your confidence and self-worth, deepen your relationship to yourself and others, and be even more badass than you ever thought possible.

Weekend Community Event and Impact on Campus

Dear Campus Community,

This weekend, Shoreline Community College is partnering with Shoreline Police, Kenmore Police, and the King County Sheriff’s Office to host a Gift Cards for Guns event on campus. There will be a noticeable presence of law enforcement at the event as well as some areas of campus that will be closed for the duration of the event. Attached is a map that shows the affected areas (which include Building 2000 and all roadways and parking areas west of Bldg. 1500, 1600, 1700, and 1800. Additionally, a detour will be in place for drivers attempting to access the City of Shoreline Off Leash Dog Park and the north side of campus. This Friday 10/13/23 Catalytic Converter Tagged & Protected Event

Dear Campus Community,

On Friday, October 13th, from 8:00am – 2:00pm, Shoreline Police and Shoreline Community College will be hosting a catalytic converter tagging event. Current students, faculty, and staff of Shoreline Community College can bring one (1) vehicle on a first come first serve basis. You will drop your vehicle off at the check-in tent where your campus affiliation will be verified, a member of our automotive program will retrieve your vehicle to etch the last 6-8 digits of your VIN on the catalytic converter before spraying it with a special brightly colored paint. The etching of the VIN will help police track the owner of the converter should it be stolen and recovered, and both the paint and the etching are a deterrent to thieves as it would make the converter much more difficult to sell.

The parking lot south of Bldg. 2000 will be cordoned off and the only vehicle access allowed will be those taking part in the event, you must enter from the south lot entrance. There will also be Shoreline Police on-site throughout the event who would love to interact with members of the community.

This is a map that shows where to drop the vehicles off for the CatCon event.

While this event is also open to City of Shoreline residents, Shoreline Police handled registration of non-campus community members and the registration quickly filled up. Passenger vehicles only (no box trucks, RVs, high-end sports cars, etc.). No installation of protective shield. Wait times may vary.
