URGENT: System Outage Update, Monday, March 20th 12:45 pm

Dear Campus Community,

Shoreline Community College appears to have experienced a ransomware attack, which has left the College website and campus Wi-Fi currently inaccessible. Due to this IT systems outage, our campus will transition the majority of our operations to remote work until further notice. The College is working with local and federal authorities to resolve this issue.  During this time campus remains open, however there is no access to the College website or campus wi-fi on college grounds

An all-campus update will be held today (Monday 3/20/22) at 4:00pm via Zoom at https://us02web.zoom.us/j/278418340  (limit to first 300 attendees; additional participants can view the meeting via YouTube at https://youtube.com/live/PKS2y9SyqOA?feature=share

SYSTEMS OUTAGES AND ISSUES 03/20/23

TSS was made aware of multiple service outages on campus including our website. We are investigating and hope to have more information soon. Please avoid calling TSS or emailing/messaging any technician directly while we investigate and troubleshoot as it can slow down this process.

CAMPUS WIRELESS NETWORK ISSUES (RESOLVED)

Good evening Campus Community,

This is a quick update regarding the status of the wireless networks. The wireless networks should now be restored and accessible in all areas. All access points are reporting updated, joined, and servicing connections. We will continue to monitor the wireless networks closely over the next several days to ensure they remain in service. Over the next several weeks, we will be doing a walk-through to conduct a physical inventory to better evaluate coverage, accessibility, and identify precise locations.

If you happen to be in an area that has been unintentionally missed, please let us know and we will investigate to determine the next steps for restoring wireless service in your area.

We have implemented several improvements to the wireless networks to ensure service continuity and faster service restoration in the event of future outages. We are continuing to look into further improvements for switch and access points ( to include power, connectivity, and configuration deployment/failover) and generator and UPS testing for power continuity and failover to reduce potential for outages and equipment damage in the future.

IMPORTANT NOTE — SOMETHING IS MISSING

The SCC EVENT wireless network is temporarily offline. Due to misuse and abuse of this wireless network, SCC EVENT will be reconfigured to improve security and better serve its intended purpose of serving events on campus. Please be sure you connect your personal devices, laptops, etc. to the appropriate SCC STAFF or SCC STUDENT WI-FI wireless networks. Campus-owned / provided laptops and devices are configured to automatically connect to the appropriate wireless network.

We apologize for the failure to individually respond to those persons asking for additional information, area-specific updates, or detailed information on the restoration process. We very much appreciate your patience and understanding through this new year tribulation.

Thank you,

Ric

CAMPUS WIRELESS NETWORK ISSUES

Good afternoon Campus Community,

CAMPUS WIRELESS NETWORK ISSUES

Good morning Campus Community,

This is a quick update regarding the status of the campus wireless networks. We are encountering ongoing intermittency with wireless network access across campus. This is due to a number of Access Points that are not returning to service and have to be manually interacted with to restore service. There are approximately 28 known APs at this time that we are working to reset and restore. We have been informed this morning that additional APs which are not reporting issues are experiencing difficulty.

We are still trying to move from south campus to north campus, but given the time variance and delay with the identified APs, we will be re-focusing on areas as follows:

  • classrooms/areas with high student/faculty and no physical connectivity
  • conference rooms/meeting areas with high attendance requirements
  • all other spaces

Unfortunately, the current completion time is for full resolution is unknown. Please know that the wireless networks are being prioritized to get them restored as quickly as possible. We greatly appreciate your patience and understanding. Further updates will be forthcoming as status changes.
Thank you,Ric
