Fall 2021 Starfish Update

Greetings Shoreline faculty & staff!  With fall quarter underway, the Starfish implementation team would like to provide you with an update.  As you are already aware, Starfish is a retention-oriented student success software that will replace Advisor Data Portal and provide our advising teams with a robust set of case management tools to facilitate a proactive student services model in alignment with the Guided Pathways framework.

What’s happened so far
The Starfish Implementation team spent summer quarter working on the technical setup of integrating Starfish with our student information system, HP3000, and Microsoft Outlook.  During this same time, advisors and advising leadership from both domestic and international teams worked through several configuration modules to set up the Starfish features in a way that reflects our current services.

What’s happening now
Fall term is all about testing and training!  Since late September, we’ve been reviewing our configuration for accuracy and ensuring that the features are working correctly.  Throughout October, advisors are engaging with a series of just-in-time training modules to build proficiency before we launch on November 1, 2021. On that date, advisors will begin using Starfish to look up students, manage their caseloads, schedule appointments, and record notes.  

What’s coming next
Winter 2022 will bring many exciting developments: the student portal will open on January 3rd, at which time students will book appointments with advisors directly in Starfish. Throughout winter, we’ll focus on supporting student usage of Starfish and making technical updates as we transition from HP3000 to ctcLink.  Throughout the year, you can expect to hear more about Starfish via quarterly DAAG announcements and at presentations in divisional meetings.
