After a two-year hiatus, Shoreline Community College (SCC) will be reinstating the Men’s Soccer program and returning to the Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC) competition for the Fall 2022 season. Following a proposal and presentation last week by Athletic Director Steve Eskridge and Dean of Student Support & Success Derek Levy to the College’s Executive Team, they voted unanimously to bring the program back.
“We are truly excited to have our Men’s Soccer team back to compete in the NWAC,” said Athletic Director, Steve Eskridge.
Over the past two years, the Athletic Department has focused on providing a new academic plan to support and assist student-athletes with academic success, leading to a trend of positive improved performance. Additionally, both the men’s and women’s soccer programs will be using a rented low-cost soccer field near the college campus for practice and games to help mitigate costs.
The return will offer the college a vehicle to help support first-generation and students-of-color recruitment. While providing potential opportunities to recruit international student-athletes.
Eskridge said the department is excited that the Executive Team has given them a chance to increase SCC’s Athletic team offerings, providing opportunities to join the Dolphin community and bring more balance to the men’s and women’s athletic teams.
Current SCC women’s soccer coach, Shaun Warner, will take the reins and added responsibility as the men’s head soccer, leading both soccer programs. Coach Warner brings a wealth of soccer experience to SCC, previously coaching high school boys’ soccer at Bothell High school, and currently serves as the boys’ soccer head coach at Shorewood High School.
