Campus Updates 10/15/2026

Hi folks, busy week on my end, and, yes sorry for the “broken record” – a lot of budget and policy work this week.  The highlight was Indigenous Peoples Day when a group of us from the Administration Building visited the yəhaw̓ Center for Student Empowerment to experience the beautiful Indigenous Peoples’ Day display. Staff members shared meaningful personal items and stories, teaching us about their origins, cultural significance, and connections to community. It was a powerful reminder of the rich diversity of the students and communities we are honored to serve, and an opportunity to celebrate and learn from our Indigenous staff, faculty, and administrators.  Thank you to Amalia Akagi and team!

Shoreline College will continue to receive $180,000 through the SBCTC Nursing Expansion Grant, helping to support the growth and sustainability of the nursing program?  Our deans (Dalila and Carley) are working with nursing faculty to identify opportunities to increase nursing FTE enrollment. Expanding program capacity will help meet workforce demand, generate additional revenue for the college, and position Shoreline to compete for future nursing and healthcare-related funding opportunities. Yes!

Biotechnology is another outstanding program here at Shoreline, and even GeekWire knows about it – our program is mentioned in their recent article about the biotech race!

Finally, as I did in last week’s update, I want to share more of the comments we received at Convocation describing things that Shoreline College Faculty and Staff are doing to say “Yes” and move the college forward:

  • Building relationships with other schools
  • Inviting high school students to a free preview of SCC musicals
  • Addressing student concerns to ensure they feel seen and heard.
  • Assigning supplementary articles that bring course content to life and discussing them with students.
  • Connecting with high school DECA business students
  • Meeting with high school students who are interested in dentistry
  • Helping students sign up for EBT/SNAP benefits.
  • Serving at Ask Me Tables and asking campus visitors if they need help.
  • Supporting textbook affordability and access to OERs (open educational resources)
  • Creating more engagement opportunities on campus
  • Answering any concerns students may have
  • Providing student-focused support within the nursing program. Building bridges often means seeing the student’s family members come to SC, including sisters, sons, cousins, etc…

Cheers,

Jack

Cafeteria and Catering Services Update

The critical work to clean, repair, and certify the kitchen storage, preparation, and cooking equipment with our Facilities and the Upper Crust Food Service teams nears completion. Great news to share that the walk-in coolers and freezers replacement parts and installation will be completed this week.

King County Health Department (KCHD) will be inspecting the kitchen and back-of-the-house areas with our team early next week. We expect to do a ribbon cutting and soft opening the last week of October or first week of November. Upper Crust Food Services will commence full kitchen and catering operations on Monday, November 9!

Happening Today: Temporary Relocation of Avanti Markets PICO 360 Coolers to Maple Student Union (9000) Seating Area

Earlier today, the Avanti Markets PICO 360 Coolers were relocated along the walls of the seating area in the Maple Student Union, Building 9000. Two microwaves are in the process of relocation to the counters by the self-service coffee dispensers (not pictured). The coolers and microwaves are being moved so the Upper Crust Food Service can prepare the space for expected opening on November 1st.  After Upper Crust Food Service begins full operations on November 9th, the machines will be removed. Please see picture below showing relocation of all nine coolers:

Action Required: Email MFA Option Being Retired October 26, 2026

Hello Campus Community,

To align our authentication methods with current security best practices and strengthen the overall security of the ctcLink environment, the SBCTC will be making a change to the way Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is used with ctcLink.

Beginning Monday, October 26, 2026, the Email option will no longer be available as a Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) method within ctcLink.

Why is this changing?

As part of a systemwide security initiative across Washington’s community and technical colleges, Email is being removed as an MFA option because email accounts can be vulnerable to phishing, password reuse, and other forms of compromise. Removing Email as an authentication factor helps reduce security risks and encourages the use of stronger, more secure methods.

Recommended MFA options include:

  • Authenticator Apps (Google, Okta Verify, Microsoft)
  • Security keys (such as YubiKeys)

What do I need to do?

Prior to October 26, 2026, please verify your selected MFA options in ctcLink. If you are already using an MFA method other than Email, no additional action is required at this time.

If Email is currently your only MFA method, you will be prompted to choose and enroll in another MFA option the next time you log in after October 26, 2026. We encourage you to update your MFA settings before that date to avoid any login interruptions when accessing ctcLink services.

Need Help?

Instructions for setting up and managing MFA options are available through the ctcLink Reference Center:

Employees: HCM Employee Self Service Okta – Multi-Factor Authentication – select Setting Up Your Multi-Factor Recovery Options

Students: Student Self Service Okta – Multi-Factor Authentication – select Setting Up Your Multi-Factor Recovery Options

Questions?

If you need assistance updating your MFA settings or have questions about this change, please contact TSS by visiting https://support.shoreline.edu.

Thank you for helping us maintain a secure and reliable technology environment for our college community.
