Campus Updates 11/5/2026

Hey folks, hope you are doing well.  I know you are wondering how I am surviving without Lori here – it ain’t easy!! Wishing her well on her time off with family, of course!  This week has been more policy and budget work so far, and a couple meetings with potential new partners for the college.  Over the past few weeks, I’ve had the opportunity to participate in several outstanding student engagement activities on campus that highlight the creativity, community, and support systems that make Shoreline special.

One highlight was visiting the “Cursed Library” experience hosted by our Library team. What started as a Halloween-themed escape room and scream contest quickly became a showcase of the many resources available to students, from tutoring and academic support to the MakerSpace, media production tools, and opportunities to connect with classmates. A special thank you to Dawn Lowe-Wincentsen, Jeffrey Janosik, our library staff, and the student volunteers who created such a fun and engaging experience. It was a creative reminder that the library is far more than a place to study; it is a hub for learning, innovation, and student success.  Bravo!

I also enjoyed attending the Mid-Term Food Truck Event hosted by our Associated Student Government and Student Life teams. Despite the drizzle, the event brought students, faculty, and staff together for great food, conversation, and community building. It was wonderful to see students taking a well-deserved break, reconnecting with friends, and engaging with campus life outside the classroom.

Hope to see you at the Giving Table on Friday afternoon and Dia’ De Los Muertos Friday early evening.  So many ways to connect and engage!

Cheers,

Jack

Amazon Locker “Shoreline 16101” Installed and Ready for Use

The new Amazon Locker was installed on the SW corner of the Maple Student Union 9000 yesterday, and it is activated and ready for employee, student, and community use.  Select the Amazon Locker named “Shoreline 16101” as the delivery address if you want your Amazon packages to be delivered there instead of the Mail Room. If the package is too large for the locker, the Amazon system will remove that delivery option when you place your Amazon order.

The Luxer locker solution will still be used for Residence Hall students’ non-Amazon package deliveries such as FedEx, UPS, and other private carriers.

On a related note, if you receive packages that do not belong to you or your department, please contact Jeff Keith, in Mail Services, via email, at his office extension at (206) 533-6606, or college-issued mobile phone at (206) 804-1198.

Food and Catering Services Update

We hope that you were able attend yesterday’s Food Service Ribbon Cutting Event. The attendance numbers exceeded estimates, and thank you to April Nilsen, Executive Director of the Foundation, and our Foundation Donors for paying for the food and drinks provided by Upper Crust Food Services yesterday.

After an eight-year drought of on-campus hot food operations, Upper Crust Food Services will begin daily food service and catering operations in the Maple Student Union 9000 Bldg. beginning Monday, November 9th.  Initial meal time service will include breakfast and lunch service in addition to campus catering for on-campus events and facility rentals.  Beginning Monday, November 9th, you can view the current and upcoming Upper Crust Food Service menus by navigating to the College’s Dining on Campus webpage and clicking the Food in Dining Hall link located therein.

Food Truck Service will end, and the Avanti Markets PICO 360 Coolers and self-service coffee dispensers will be removed from campus in the coming days as Upper Crust Food Service begins daily operations.

Technology Support Services (TSS)

Security Hardening Project

Technology Support Services (TSS) has launched a campus-wide Security Hardening Project to strengthen the security of Shoreline’s technology environment and align with industry best practices and security standards. This initiative will be implemented in phases throughout the remainder of the academic year and will include a variety of improvements designed to enhance the protection of college systems, data, and accounts.

To promote transparency and awareness, TSS will maintain a Security Hardening Project spreadsheet on the TSS intranet, where upcoming changes, implementation timelines, and project updates will be posted as they become available. High-impact changes that may affect campus users will also be shared through the college’s participatory governance process to provide opportunities for review, discussion, and feedback prior to implementation.

The initial list of planned security enhancements is available here:

Security Hardening Project Tracker: Security Hardening Spreadsheet.xlsx

We appreciate the campus community’s partnership as we continue to strengthen Shoreline’s security posture while supporting a safe, reliable, and resilient technology environment.

Campus Classroom Audio/Video (AV) Equipment Update

Technology Support Services (TSS) would like to provide an update regarding classroom Audio/Video (AV) systems across campus. At the start of the Fall Quarter, TSS received reports of various AV issues affecting smart classrooms. In response, our technicians worked closely with vendors to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve these issues, including updating firmware and system components in classrooms throughout campus.

We are pleased to announce that this work has been completed and that classroom AV systems should now be operating as expected. These updates improve system reliability and help ensure a more consistent teaching and learning experience for faculty and students.

If you experience any issues with classroom technology or AV equipment, please submit a support request through the TSS Support Portal at:

https://support.shoreline.edu

Prompt reporting of issues helps our team respond quickly and maintain the quality and reliability of classroom technology services.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation while this work was underway and for your continued partnership in supporting a successful learning environment.
