Reminder & Update: College Update Conversation This Fri., Nov. 6

A College Update conversation is scheduled for 12:30 p.m., Friday, November 6, in the PUB Main Dining Room to share the new state funding allocation model, the implications for the college, as well as how all employees can be part of the way forward.

In preparation for the meeting, please consider participating in a two-question, open-ended survey available here.

Women’s Soccer Travels to Oregon for Playoffs Sat., Nov. 7

Wish the Shoreline’s Women’s Soccer team luck as they travel to Lane Community College on Sat., Nov. 7 for a 12 p.m. kick off in round 2 of the NWAC playoffs. Lane is the champion of the South Region and currently ranked 7th in the NWAC Alaska Airlines Coaches Poll. This is the same match up in the Quarterfinals as last season when the Phins lost to Lane 1-2. A victory on Saturday would advance Shoreline to the NWAC Soccer Championships. Nov. 9-13 is International Education Week! Come celebrate with us and learn about different cultures with a whole host of fun events, including:

International Fashion Show: 12:30-2 p.m., Mon., Nov. 9, PUB Main Dining Room
See and learn about traditional dress from cultures around the world modeled by Shoreline students and staff.

International Experiences: Perspectives of Student Veterans: 1-2 p.m., Tues., Nov. 10, PUB Quiet Dining Room (9208)
A panel of Shoreline student veterans will discuss their experiences with other cultures during their service overseas.

2015 Summer Study Abroad Poster Session: 2-3:30 p.m., Tues., Nov. 10, PUB Quiet Dining Room (9208)
During the break between summer and fall quarters, Shoreline students traveled to South Africa and Bolivia on study abroad programs. On Tuesday, November 10, you will have the chance to meet students who participated in each of these programs and talk with them about their experiences.

Join students from the Indonesian Culture Club for a brief introduction to Indonesian culture and Bahasa Indonesian, the official language of Indonesia.

Join students from the Chinese Culture Club for a brief introduction to Chinese culture and Mandarin, the official language of the People’s Republic of China.

In the next year, Shoreline students will have the opportunity to study in Germany, Jamaica, Cambodia, France, the United Kingdom, Japan, Australia & New Zealand, as well as to teach in China. Come learn about our programs at tables in the PUB lobby.

Faculty members Dutch Henry (English) and Diana Knauf (Psychology) will discuss the study abroad programs that they will be leading this coming summer in Paris and Cambodia, respectively. Learn about their visions for the programs and how you could broaden your horizons by joining them.

Join students from the Vietnamese Culture Club for a brief introduction to Vietnamese language and culture.

Find out why the world is crazy about K-Pop and Korean television dramas. A Shoreline student from Korea will offer a brief introduction to Korean language and culture.

Badminton Tournament: 10 a.m. – 1:30 p.m., Fri., Nov. 13, Main Gym (3000 bldg.)
Played around the world for fitness and fun, badminton is easy to learn but hard to master. Students will compete to see which team will rule the day and take home the prize.

PUB Quiz: 1-2:30 p.m., Fri., Nov. 13, PUB Quiet Dining Room (9208)
Teams of four students will participate in a Pub Quiz-style contest, answering questions about geography, world cultures, and world history to see who knows the most about our world and who will take home the prize.

November Open Enrollment – PEBB Medical Benefits

To Employees receiving PEBB Benefits: PEBB Medical Flexible Spending Arrangement (FSA) and Dependent Care Assistance Program (DCAP)

If you wish to enroll in or continue your Medical FSA and/or DCAP, open enrollment is the time to do it. Remember, if you are currently enrolled in the Medical FSA and/or DCAP, you must reenroll each year to continue, even if you don’t wish to change your contribution amount(s). You must enroll or reenroll no later than November 30th for the January 1, 2016 coverage year.

The Medical FSA allows you to:

Set aside part of your paycheck, before taxes, to cover qualified medical expenses for you and your family members.

You may set aside as little as $240 or as much as $2,500 during 2016, which will be deducted from each paycheck in equal installments.

When you have qualified medical expenses, you may pay them with a Medical FSA debit card or submit claims for reimbursement.

The DCAP allows you to:

Set aside part of your paycheck, before taxes, for child or elder care expenses.

You may set aside up to $5,000 per household ($2,500 each if married and filing separate tax returns) which will be deducted in equal amounts from each paycheck.

When you incur child or elder care expenses, submit the claims for reimbursement.
