Our email is moving to the cloud on May 19

TSS has issued the following notice:

**********THIS IS AN ALL-CAMPUS MESSAGE FROM TECHNOLOGY SUPPORT SERVICES**********

What is happening:

This email is your first notice that your mailbox will be migrated soon. Your mail is currently hosted on-premises at Shoreline Community College and will be migrated to Exchange Online, a service of Microsoft Office 365.

Event date: May 19, 2015

Persons affected: All users who have a mailbox on-premises and have @shoreline.edu addresses.

Expected resolution time: May 19, 2015

Details: You will continue to be able to access your email anytime, anywhere via mail.shoreline.edu.

Additionally, you will have access to new features of Outlook Web App (OWA) along with the ability to use Office mobile apps which have been designed for iPhone/iPad and Android.

If you use a tablet or phone for work email, TSS recommends you install and configure the app to connect to Exchange prior to the migration.

You will soon receive an email with further details regarding the date of this transition.

But wait, there’s more!

Other features of Microsoft Office 365 are also available to you immediately including online versions of WordExcelPowerPointOneNote, andOneDrive for Business. Additionally, you may use Skype for Business for presence notification, instant messaging, desktop or application sharing, and audio or video chat.

The Office 365 for business learning center is your place to learn more about using and managing these services and programs.

Be a Champion With Seattle Foundation’s Day of Champions and GiveBIG, Tues., May 5

On Tues., May 5, the Seattle Foundation will host its annual one-day online charitable giving event, putting the spotlight on the Seattle area’s dynamic nonprofits that make this area such a great place to live.

It’s a very special day, and we want you to be a part of it! Join the excitement and show your support by making a gift to the charity of your choosing.

You can give in support of SCC’s programs and students by donating to the SCC Foundation through GiveBIG here. A portion of all donations made on May 5 will be matched by the Seattle Foundation’s “stretch pool.”

Please remember to make your online donations by accessing the giving site through your  personal computers, tablets or smartphones.

Deadline to Order Commencement Cap and Gown is Tues., May 5

One last reminder! Commencement will be held on Sun., June 7, 2015 at 2 p.m. in the gymnasium. All faculty, administrators and staff are invited to wear commencement attire. Your participation is encouraged as a tribute to the dedication and achievements of our 2015 graduates.

The deadline for ordering caps and gowns is Tues., May 5. You can go online to order your commencement wear. Our cap and gown vendor, Herff Jones Cap and Gown, has set up an online ordering system that is very easy to complete for PC users, and somewhat slower for Mac users. You can access the Herff Jones website here.

All Users:
Customer number (46000591000) and the order number (#3207250).

Your order must be submitted no later than Tuesday, May 5. The College covers all rental expenses for regalia ordered and returned by the established deadlines, but not thereafter.

If you ordered during the past year:

  1. Scroll down to your name under “Faculty Name” to verify or edit your size and degree information. (NOTE: Support staff and administrators are also listed under “Faculty Name”).
  2. If no changes are necessary, click on Finished”.

For first-time orders:

  1. Anticipate a short system delay to place your order; there may be a delay from the time you select “New Faculty Member” and click “Continue”.
  2. Please be sure to click “Confirm” when you’ve completed and verified your order.

You may also order through Lisa Smith in the Student Leadership Center via email at lsmi@shoreline.edu or 206-546-5862. We do encourage you, however, to try the online order system first.

Please mark your calendar to pick up your commencement wear between June 1 and June 5, but no later than Friday, June 5 by 3 p.m., in the Student Leadership Center, PUB 3rd floor. After that time, you may pick it up on the day of Commencement at the Issue Room in the lower level of the gymnasium, between 12:30-1:30 p.m.

After the commencement ceremony, we encourage you to wear your regalia to the reception for pictures with students. It is imperative that all caps, gowns and hoods be returned on Sunday, June 7, at the conclusion of the ceremony at the drop off area in the PUB, room 9202.We must ship the commencement wear the following day in order to avoid late charges.

We strongly suggest that those who have already submitted their orders check the verified orders list here as computer errors/glitches may occur, and there is always the chance that your order may not have processed or come through as verified. May is Bike to Work Month – Join the SCC Bike Team!

bikingMay is Bike to Work Month, and Shoreline already has one team started by Alan Loveless of the CEO program participating in Cascade Bicycle Club’s Bike to Work ChallengeIf you want to join the team, click here OR go to Cascade.org to sign up for your own team. In the past, Shoreline has fielded several teams in the Bike to Work Month Challenge and we’re hoping we can get a good sized group of students, staff and faculty together again this year. We have our sites on participating in both the Ballard Bike Day and the UW Bike Day.

Parent-Child Center to Host Silent Auction Garden Party Fri., May 1

Join us this Fri., May 1 in the PUB Main Dining Room from 5:30-9 p.m. for a fun Enchanted Garden Party and silent auction event benefiting the children enrolled in SCC’s Parent-Child Center.

Admission is FREE and the community is welcome to this 21-and-older event that will feature art created by PCC children as well as donations from local businesses.

Beer and wine available for purchase
DJ music and fun activities throughout the auction
